Just like many other SimDays, this one has a few links to articles again. However, we've discussed them all already. This week there are 2: the Bustin' Out (GBA) interview with
Virginia McArthur at IGN, and the third
designer diary at GameSpot. Besides that, there's (still) the news about the
chat tonight with Jonathan Knight. There's also something we expected: the second Double Deluxe Object pack. That's the second download with new objects from Double Deluxe. You can get it from
Get Cool Stuff, where you can also get the first pack that was released last week. The new pack contains 8 objects including African and Asian house objects. Finally, there's something more about Fansites: There was a
chat last week about Maxis hosting fansites. Now there's something that's just for the links: Webmasters have to re-add their site to the list. However, now you'll have more control over the link, plus you can add a description to it. You need to be product registered and logged in to be able to add your site. For a list of fansites, or to submit yours to the official site,

Several new screenshots have been posted recently, including quite a few from Bustin' Out on the GBA. But first 2 screenshots of Makin' Magic: they're rather small, but not too bad. They're from EAGames.com, and you can find them on the
Makin' Magic page. More screenshots come from the official UK site of The Sims. These are 3 shots of Bustin' Out on the GBA. You can see those new ones, and of course several older pics, at
this page. Finally, IGN has posted an interview with Virginia McArthur from Maxis. Here's a snippet about making money:
"There is also a whole new way to earn money on the GBA: you can play mini-games! Your Sim can visit several mini-game locations, where you can play games to earn Simoleons. Depending on the skills of your Sims and the number of their friends, you make even more Simoleons each time you play the games."
They also talk about a GBA-to-GBA connection, which will be included as well as the GBA-to-GameCube connection feature. Connecting two GBA's will unlock the "Paradise Island" location, which can become a second home for your Sim. Trading items with other Sims or even an "auction" system will also be available. All that new info comes with 2 screenshots, which are
here. The interview itself, divided over 2 pages, is
right here.

IGN has been at Camp EA as well, and after GameSpot (read
this and
this) they've posted several things about The Sims Bustin' Out. First of all: the screenies. There are the 6 new ones from the GBA version which we already saw
yesterday,
at this page. They've also written a hands-on preview, which you can read
right here. They get into detail about the story mode in the game, and the town your Sim can go to. Then there's a preview of Bustin' Out on PS2, GameCube and X-Box. Once again they're all the same, and you can find it
right here. They talk about the upgraded graphics, the revamped Create-A-Sim, the transportation, and new ways to kill Sims, all on 2 pages. Along with that there are 4 brand new screenshots, all available at
this page. Then they've posted the trailer again, which is available for free from the same page (in streaming format), or in high res for download for those who are IGN Insiders. Finally, back to GameSpot, there's a video interview with Fred Dieckmann (associate Producer of Bustin' Out), for the GameSpot Complete members...

Besides GameSpot posting a lot of info on Makin' Magic (
read this), they've posted some stuff of The Sims Bustin' Out (on the consoles). There's a preview of Bustin' Out
right here. GBA players should check out
this preview as well. Besides that there are some new screenshots for the GBA version at
this page. Then there are 3 new videos (and the old trailer has been posted again), which show several things. Unfortunately for many of you, these are for GameSpot Complete members only. I'm lucky to be such a member, so let me tell something about them...

This week's SimDay seems to be pretty nice. There are several interesting, but also some less interesting things. First of all there's the official announcement of The Sims Bustin' Out on GBA (
click here to read), and a link to GameSpot's interview about it (more info
right here). Then there's a link to an article at
Wired News talking about Sims photo albums...

IGN Gameboy has posted a preview of The Sims Bustin' Out on the GBA. In it is the information we saw in
yesterday's news. However, it comes with 3 little new things: screenshots. These are about a Sim that has to go, a calling Sim and a Sim on a Bridge (below). You can check out their preview at
this page. The screenshots are on

GameSpot has had a talk with Virginia McArthur about Bustin' Out on the GBA and GameCube. The interview has been spread over 3 pages, and mainly discusses the GBA version. The opening question is about when development on the GBA version started, which officially was in March 2003. There's also a lot of talking about the connectivity between the GBA and GameCube, as well as the features the GBA edition will have. Here's a snippet about auctions:
"If you connect to another GBA, you will be able to participate in each other's daily auctions. Auctions are held every sim day in the GBA version of The Sims Bustin' Out, so the best way to get more cheap stuff is to link up to another GBA and join in that auction as well. Your sims will be able to show up at the other player's local general store and will have an additional auction time. This is the ultimate trading spot--a way to bargain and take away other sims' surplus."
They also shortly mention the developers of the game, which is not Maxis but Griptonite Games, an Amaze Entertainment Studio located in Kirkland, Washington. For more questions and answers,

EA Games has announced The Sims for the GameBoy Advance today. There's a nice little bit of info in the press release about the gameplay in Bustin' Out, which is similar to Bustin' Out on the other consoles:
"Players begin living in a Barn and earn their way through locations in SimValley to eventually live in the coolest cribs, such as a swanky Mansion on the hill. Players will be able to unlock over 20 locations such as the Biker Juice Bar and the Ultimate Dance Club on their way to success. There are eight new career paths for players to pursue including Cliff Diving Instructor to Iron Pizza Chef. If players want to get through adventures with speed, they will be able to unlock a scooter to race around SimValley. Players will meet and play with a wild cast of over 30 new characters exclusive to the Game Boy Advance such as Salty Sam and Bucky the Bull Rider. Players also can go to the pet shelter and adopt a dog or cat to keep them company. New to the Sims is a close-up social interaction screen that will allow players to have conversations with other Sims and establish friendships that will help them advance through levels and complete goals."
Of course it also mentions the connectivity with the GameCube, as well as several other things. You can read the whole press release
right here. We already knew about this game for a while, since the E3 in may, and even have 2 screenshots for your from back then. You can find them at
this page in our
news archive.

This week's SimDay isn't much, which we're getting used to by now. Basically it's one link, but since that's not a lot at all, they added another link to
GameSpot celebrating that Superstar made the #1 spot in the sales - as if that's such big news. The other link is to an article which contains an interview with Will Wright. Here's a quote from what Will has to say about The Sims Online:
"The whole point of it is that we need to give players control of the world. We're putting in a lot of community structures now where they can form larger organizations. And these social structures will evolve into governance. But the governance has to be evolved from the ground up, not from the top down. We can't just go in and say: 'Here's your government.' We need them every week to tell us: 'Now we need this. Now we need to vote.'"
The whole interview also discusses The Sims 2 and The Sims GBA. You can read it
right here.
140. Will Wright Interviews: Talk about SimUniverse? [Updated]

GameSpy has posted an interesting interview with Will Wright. It's not to much about The Sims, but more about the man himself. Besides telling how much he worked with Sid Meier on SimGolf, The Sims on GBA and the collaboration with Nintendo's Miyamoto on that. But there's also a bit about a secret project:
GameSpy: "I don't suppose you want to talk about the secret project."
Will Wright: "Not yet. The problem is that when I work on a game it takes about four years. If I start talking about it now, people will have heard about it for three years when it comes out. They'll be sick of hearing about it. I need to be kind of careful. I think that the optimum is that your game goes to E3 once, not twice or three times. I wish I could do a game in two years."
Now if we go back into our
news archive, our visitors who came here over a year ago might remember the name of SimUniverse. Although we haven't heard anything about that for a long time, it might still be true. Check out
this newspost and
this one for what we posted about SimUniverse last year. Oh, and to read the GameSpy interview:

[Update 23:30] In the "Read more" bit (or below if you can see that already) you can read more about the audio interview posted a
couple of days ago.
