Maxis is still holding the announcement of Pets back to probably July 27th, but the
EA Store has already put the game in their product listing. There are 5 versions of the game available for pre-order, namely
PC,
PS2,
GameCube,
DS,
GBA. The prices are $29.95 for PC, DS and GBA, and $39.95 for PS2 and GameCube. Several brief decriptions are included with the listings. On PC, pets will include dogs, cats, birds and more, but Create-A-Pet only exists for dogs and cats. Training is available, and pets will also be able to get a job in Show Business, Security or Service. On the consoles there will be 22 dog and 15 cat breeds, as well as guinea pigs. At Town Park you can find other Sims with pets and buy items for pets. The console game also seems to be the classic freeplay - whether there's a storymode is not said. Finally, you can also share pets through a code to hand to your friends. On the DS version, you have to run a pet clinic, and by treating pets you unlock newi tems. On the GBA you have to take a career in Pet Care and go through different jobs. Read more for the precise descriptions.

162. Pets Announcement at July 27?

A couple of days ago we
reported how a temporary information page of the Sims 2 Pets at
GameSpy had "
Hold for July 27th" in the title, hinting towards an announcement date of July 27th, when the PC expansion pack and console/handheld game will be officially announced. Now there's a new hint towards that date. A month ago, at 15 June, Don Laabs, Senior Producer for Maxis, wrote a
letter to the community. In that letter he wrote "
the official announcement is slated to happen in several weeks." Now Don's
blog has a little message saying "
'Several' = 6.00." Counting 6 weeks from June 15 is indeed exactly on 27 July, which now is most likely the date when Maxis will officially let us know more about Pets and pawprints. Naturally we'll report about anything happening on and before that day regarding the game, so stay tuned for details.

Following
rumours of only a few days ago that the second Stuff pack for the Sims 2 would be called "
Glamour Life," Maxis has confirmed that to be a fact, by revealing details of the pack on the
official site. A
product page has been created, on which you can find 17 screenshots, 33 item renders, 2 videos and the system requirements. All of that is accompanied with the following description of the pack:
"Your Sims can now indulge in a glamorous life with this collection of luxurious furniture, fashionable clothing, and extravagant décor items. Create lavish homes furnished with the finest modern bedroom, living room, and dining room sets. Turn heads in the neighborhood as your Sims show off elegant gowns, red carpet formalwear, and cool casual styles at their next big soirée. Your Sims will live the high life with 60 new items including pop-art paintings, sectional sofas, a high-end stereo, fur coats, and more!"
As with the Family Fun pack, Glamour Life will contain about 60 items (objects, clothing, etc), of which roughly half can already be seen through the image renders. A release date has not yet been given, although the intro flash on the official site mentions August. Whether earlier
rumours saying mid-August or else late August are true has not yet been confirmed. The price of the pack will probably be similar to that of Family Fun Stuff: around $20/£10. Availability through
EA Downloader has also not yet been confirmed. You can find all screenshots (including some
earlier ones, in higher quality, as well as one featuring the logo) and all item renders in the Read More part, or on the official
screenshots respectively
renders pages. You can also check out the two
videos showing the features and the
system requirements. We'll keep you updated with the latest about this stuff pack as soon as the news comes in.

After several mentions on online shops of the upcoming stuff pack, known as "
Glamour Stuff" until now, there's now some more concrete information regarding the stuff pack. The
Thai EA site has published a
product page of the stuff pack, which contains some basic information as well as some screenshots. As far as rumours go, mostly from pre-order pages (which no longer exist), the mini expansion will be released late August. The screenshots also reveal a more detailed name: in the right bottom corner the logo is displayed, with the title "
The Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff" 'Srikwan01' on the official site's
BBS ('The T' on
TheSimsResource) has found the page and posted some information in his
TSR blog. You can find that text, as well as some
item descriptions in the Read More part of this post. Click the five screenshot thumbnails to see larger versions - the other images are the Thai logo, as well as a few artworks of some of the 60 objects in the pack. Thanks to
SnootySims for the find.

A little while ago publisher
Aspyr announced that the third expansion pack for the Sims 2 will be released on Mac as well. Open for Business will be the same as the PC version of the expansion pack, except for the platform it runs on. As always, The Sims 2 for Mac is required for the expansion. The pack is currently in early development and thus the release date might still change. The price is set at $34.99, according to
MacWorld. Pre-orders will soon be taken. Of course The Sims Zone will keep you up-to-date with the release information of the pack.

As
announced late May, the Family Fun Stuff pack would be available on
EA Downloader, EA's service where you can buy games and then download them, saving a trip to the store or waiting for the mail. With a bit of a delay the game now is available for purchase there. For the usual retail price of $19.99 or £14.99 you can now buy and download the game. See the
American or
British product info pages for more details. People in other regions of the world can click either link, and choose their location at the right-top of the website.
168. Open for Business and Family Fun Patches [Update]

After several weeks of making and testing, Maxis has released two new patches for Open for Business and Family Fun Stuff. For Open for Business there are 54 solved issues, the Family Fun Stuff patch fixes 51. In total, 50 of these problems are fixed in both patches. Both patches are around 27Mb large. If you have Family Fun Stuff, you
only need the
Family Fun Stuff Patch,
otherwise, if you have Open for Business get the
Open for Business Patch.
As said, the Family Fun Stuff patch also includes the one for Open for Business. On the download pages you can find the full list of fixes. For Family Fun Stuff the third fix is new in this second patch, the first two fixes were also in the
first patch, which is included in this one. For Open for Business, everything from "
Families can no longer be combined when two separate families travel to the same community lot" is new since the
previous patch. You can find a summarised list of the most important fixes in the rest of this newspost.
[Update 20 June, 17:30] Unlike what's said above, you
do need both patches, if you have both Open for Business and Family Fun installed. The order in which you install the patches does not matter. For more information, see
this BBS post by Community Manager MaxoidMel on the official site.

169. Don Laabs talks to Community

It's been a while since Don Laabs got the job of Senior Producer for PC expansion packs of the Sims 2. Thursday he posted a letter on the
official site, in which he talks about several topics the community has been talking about lately. First of all he mentions the next expansion pack will be revealed through an official announcement in several weeks. Meanwhile there have been a few sneak peeks (from
Hunter and
Shannon) of features in the new EP. In other news, he also announces that sims creator HappyMoonBelly has joined Maxis in the video capture department as full-time employee. There are also three new QA testers from the community, and Nick K. (Limbo1n), who
won the USC / Sims 2 University Contest last year has been an intern for Maxis for about a month. He spent his time at the marketing department.
The second half of the letter is about hot topics on the forums. First of all he announces patches for Open for Business and Family Fun Stuff have arrived - more about that here later. Don also explains why making a patch takes so long - the Sims 2 is a very complex game, and everything needs to be tested in a high number of configurations, a number which is increasing with every product. Don also talks about Stuff packs - more will be released in the future. They're not available as downloads, to make people who don't visit the websites (official or fansites) get some extra items for their games anyway. Maxis acknowledges that they're not for everyone. When it comes to Tim LeTourneau, Don tells he's become Executive Producer, but he can't say whatfor yet. Finally, he explains how it should be "
Live Mode" ("
intransitive verb, rhymes with give") and not "
Live mode" ("
adjective, rhymes with jive"). For the complete explanations, details, etc, read
Don's Letter.
170. Glamour Stuff in August?

Besides the Sims 2: Pets, there have been some rumours about a second Stuff pack. When the first stuff packs were
spotted, Family Fun was the first, and Glamour Stuff the second. Although at first the glamour pack was expected this month, a Dutch online store,
MusicStore is now
listing the Glamour Stuff Pack with a release date of 15 August. This has not been confirmed by Maxis or EA though. Whether they will announce the pack along the next expansion (see
earlier news) is unsure, but an official release date is not expected until the pack's official announcement. The Sims Zone will keep you up-to-date with the latest news about this pack, as always.
