131. The Sims Life Stories Product Info

The Sims Life Stories was recently
rumoured in several ways by EA. More confirmation and actual product information now comes from Switzerland, which the online shop
ABC Software had published. Our affiliate
SimsZone reported the news, and although the product page is now removed, the
German text has been posted on their forums.
Life Stories will be a new laptop-friendly version of the Sims 2. The focus lies on quick gameplay, based on stories you can tell, much like earlier console versions. You play Laura, who is moving back home, to start a new life with new friends, experiences and unexpected surprises. A bonus story lets you play the life of Lukas, a geek with an unlucky romantic life. The classic Sims gameplay is also available, so you create a house, sims, and tell their stories.
The laptop aspect is introduced with special easy shortcuts, as well as an auto-pause feature that pauses the game as you close the lid of your laptop. You can also stay in touch with your friends over IM, Chat and Email, as the game runs in its own window. The Sims Life stories is the beginning of a series, with a pets expansion pack coming first. In the future an island expansion pack will be released as well, where you'll control the story of a shipwrecked Sim on a tropical island. These ideas match the domains EA
registered earlier. The release date is rumoured to be late January 2007. We'll let you know when more information is available.

EA Link (formerly EA Downloader) you can now pre-order the game for $6.99. More details about the Sims games on EA Link can be found through a

A host of new Sims products was recently revealed by EA, although still not completely official. The first was put on EA's game registration page, titled "The Sims Life Stories". It's unsure what this title will be for, although it could very well be an upcoming expansion pack or stuff pack, after (or just before) In-Season.
SnootySims reports that this game is now available as pre-order from
GameStop, for January 2007 at the price of $39.99. MaxoidMel has
confirmed the game on the BBS, saying more news will follow soon. A Sims title for the Wii is also in production, although there's no news regarding its title or any other details. Nothing at all has been confirmed regarding the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 platforms.
The biggest confirmation yet is probably that the Sims 3 is definitely in production, and it'll probably be a fiscal year 2009 title. That means its release will be somewhere between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2009. Naturally this can still be shifted back and forth, and so far the only known fact is that the game is in development. Nothing more, nothing less. Details can be found on
GameSpot.
Our colleagues at
SimsZone have also discovered that for Life Stories several domains have been registered. There's
TheSimsLifeStories.com,
TheSimsPetStories.com,
TheSimsIslandStories.com and just
TheSimsStories.com. For the Wii there are
TheSimsWii.com,
WiiTheSims.com and
WiiAreTheSims.com. All these domains still point to the
existing official site for the Sims 2. In all cases we'll give you more news regarding any of these titles as we get it.

With Pets being released on a number of platforms last week, EA has updated its online customer support pages with help with the expansion pack (PC) and console games. Many common questions, about unlocking pets and features, but also technical issues with installing or running the game are covered in the FAQs. You can find information about the
PC version, the
PlayStation 2 and finally also the
GameCube editions. Help for the handheld versions will probably be added once those games have been released next month.

Just before the release of the Sims 2 Pets, several fansites posted previews of the new expansion pack. First there are five French sites which posted information after an event in France earlier this month. All of them have pictures with the articles as well. The Italian
EdenStyle also posted a new movie of the game, from a visit at EA Italy where they were shown the game. There's also the Dutch fansite
SimsNetwerk which has posted a report based on an early experience with the game in July as well as the GamesConvention in August. An English version of the report will be published later. Click the links below for all the reports. Thanks to
SnootySims for the French links.

To promote the Sims 2 Pets on all platforms, several fans have been over at EA's offices last summer to create videos and more promotional material for the games. This continuation of the "
Sims Played By campaign has resulted in (at least) 10 videos, which will be shown on TV and in magazines internationally. The Sims Zone has received 10 videos in
QuickTime format for you to download and watch. One of them is exclusive, and won't be shown on the
official site until next week. The "
Dig" video features a German Shepherd on a digging mission, with music from the Dutch band Krezip (in Simlish) in the background. Krezip is another band which can be added to the list of
artists in the Sims 2 Pets Soundtrack, and the full song is featured in the Sims 2 Pets on PC, PS2, GameCube and PSP. See the list below to download all the videos. Two more stories can be found on the
campaign's website.

For the PC expansion pack you can find eight new screenshots, while the number of screenshots for the PSP version grows with eight. Besides those eight there are another three for the PSP that our colleagues at
