281. The Sims PS2 and SimCity 4 gold
Written on Sunday 22 December 2002 at 00:16 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The Sims on PS2 and SimCity 4 have gone gold. That means the games itself are ready, and the packaged are all put together and duplicated. Both these games will be released 14 January. To celebrate, IGN has posted movies of both games. Two videos of The Sims on PS2 can be found here, and a 30Mb SimCity 4 movie is here. People in the USA and Canada can buy this game 14 January, Europe (and probably other parts of the world too) will have to wait until 21 February for The Sims, or 17 January for SimCity 4.

282. SimDay: More chats...
Written on Thursday 12 December 2002 at 19:40 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week in SimDay: a new TSO and SimCity 4 chat, a patch for The Sims Deluxe and a new The Sims PS2 website. The patch and website info can be read in the "Read more" link, but first here is all the chat info. First of all, tonight at 11pm (British time, midnight GMT or 3pm Pacific) there will be a chat of SimCity 4. Guest of honour is Joseph, designer of that game, who will be talking about the rewards system. Tomorrow there's another TSO chat where you can talk about the development team. That event will be held at 2am British time (which is 3 in the morning in Europe, 6pm PST). A chat of last week's chat is available at the TSO site. As it's available only in the community events section of the bug boards, I cannot read the chat as I cannot join the play test either. Remember that we have a TSO interview too! You can still submit your questions to us so your questions get answered.

283. Late SimDay: PS2 Previews
Written on Friday 15 November 2002 at 22:04 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week's simday was put up late, hence this late report. All that's interesting now is that there are 3 links to short previews of The Sims on PS2. There's on at IGN, another one at Gaming Nexus and another one at GameZone. The IGN one is just a development update really. However, there are some new screenshots. The same goes for the GameZone one, which also has a bunch of new screenshots. The Gaming Nexus one is a short product overview, with a list of key features:
  • The Sims in 3D - Explore an entirely new 3D world that harnesses the full power of the PlayStation 2. The controller-based interface makes controlling your Sims and creating their world a snap.
  • Level based game play Start with just one Sim in a shack and move into bigger and better homes as you advance through lifes big moments. Meet new neighbors and unlock objects along the way.
  • Play The Sims with a friend - For the first time, two players can now control their own Sims in the same Sim environments. Play all new two-player games for popularity points and money. Save your house and Sims on a memory card and play them on a friends system.
  • PlayStation 2 exclusive content Meet and interact with new characters and play with new objects not found on any PC version of The Sims. Customize your Sims appearance to a new level of detail found only on the PlayStation 2 console.
  • Open Ended Gameplay: Just like in the PC version of the Sims you can create and control your Sims in the no winners or losers gameplay. Set your own goals and play at your own pace to create your perfect Sims home.
  • The last bit of this SimDay is about last night's MySims featured chat. A transcript of it will be put up soon enough, for everybody who missed it.

    284. The Sims (PS2) Preview
Written on Tuesday 1 October 2002 at 13:58 by Matthew - 0 comments.
In addition to the many reviews of the two new PC Sims products, there are still a few previews of the forthcoming PS2 version appearing. Guess that's what happens when it gets delayed until January 2003. huh? Still, you can calm your craving for the console version with a new preview over at GameSpot. Here's a little taste of it, talking about adapting the control system to the PS2 pad:
'You'll be able to do everything you could do with the mouse and keyboard in the PC version of The Sims using the PlayStation 2's controller. The two analog sticks let you rotate the camera and move the cursor, while the circle button collapses any walls or solid objects that you have highlighted to allow you to see as much of your surroundings as possible. The square button centers the camera on your selected sim, and the X button makes that sim interact with his or her surroundings. You can fast-forward time in The Sims for the PS2 using the R1 shoulder button, while R2 switches your control to nearby sims. Likewise, your motives, friendships, personality, and job requirements can all be accessed with the D pad, and by pressing pause, you can get to your buy, build, budget, and options menus. Longtime players of The Sims won't have any problems adjusting to this new control scheme, and those who've never played a single game in the series will find it quite intuitive.'

    285. SimGolf Poll
Written on Thursday 30 May 2002 at 02:08 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Yup, there's a new poll again. Last week's poll about The Sims on PS2 came with some interesting results. Most (52) votes of all 125 say that the game should be kept to the PC only, and they don't think it'd work on a console. Second place, with 19 votes, are the people who have a PS2 and will buy the game. 13 people can't wait for The Sims 2 on the PC. 12 others want to know more first, and another 12 rather want it on a XBox or GameCube. 11 people would even buy a PS2 with it, and 6 need to save up money.

This week, we want to know what you think is the best excuse EA Europe should give for releasing SimGolf so late. It was delayed again until 27/28 June now. On the right and on this page you can vote, and see some of the reasons we've thought of. Happy voting.
