221. "Urban Sims" called "The URBZ"
Written on Wednesday 21 April 2004 at 20:39 by ChEeTaH - 6 comments.
As you know we already told you about Urban Sims coming to the consoles a few days ago. EA has released their official press release today, but instead of using "Urban Sims" as title, it will probably be called "The URBZ" (which is a working title). As said Sims will go downtown, but we will no longer know them as Sims. Instead, they will be called "Urbz". You will be taking them to new places and jobs where you can follow your Urbz around 24/7, even on the job. The game will have a completely new graphics engine, as well as a new character customization engine. You can dress your Urbz any way you want, and even give them nose rings or tattoos. The reputation (rep) is the most important. As your Urb's rep grows, and if you have an EyeToy for the Playstation 2, then your Sim can look like you. You just have to "download" a photo of you using the EyeToy to the game. The GBA version will, as said, be more like the GBA version of Bustin' Out. Read the press release for more information. Expect a lot more info about this sequel to Bustin' Out in May during the E3. The release is scheduled to be at the same time on all platforms in fall 2004.

222. Urban Sims coming to Consoles
Written on Saturday 17 April 2004 at 16:30 by ChEeTaH - 3 comments.
When Luc left Maxis, he already mentioned a new version for The Sims on the consoles, which will be released later this year. Now IGN has posted some info about it. The current working title is "Urban Sims". Urban because your Sims will be able to go downtown in this new title. As with Bustin' Out, the game will be released on PlayStation2, GameCube, X-Box and GBA. The GBA version is again different from the others, and will be developed by Griptonite Games, which also made Bustin' Out on the GBA. Read on for a lot more information and screenshots...

223. New Poll
Written on Thursday 15 April 2004 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
As usual we have a new poll this week. Now The Sims Online has been released in the US and Japan, but is still more or less a failure, we're wondering if you think the game should be released in Europe after all or not. On the message board of Sims Online Stratics a group of European players is co-ordinating a campaign to gauge European interest. They hope to send the results to EA should they be positive, to encourage them to rethink the European release. Let us know what you think by voting on the right, or on this page. Last week we also had a poll, about the new console version which will be coming later this year. Opinions are pretty divided. 32% Will definitely get it, but 26% doesn't care as they don't have a console. 14% Just doesn't care, 12% will only get it if there are enough differences with the previous versions. Finally, 9% will probably not buy it until it's really good and 8% will "wait and see". In total 214 people voted. You can see the exact results on the results page.

224. New poll
Written on Thursday 8 April 2004 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Another week, another poll. Last week we asked you the question what you think of the name "Body Shop" instead of CaSIE or any of the other old names. And it turns out that the Body Shop (106 votes) is by far the most popular name, followed by CaSIE (36 votes). CAS and SACAS got the least of the 225 votes, with just 11 and 2 votes each. The 70 "I don't care" people ended up in the middle. You can also check out the exact results. This week's poll is about the new console version of The Sims. In his final community e-mail Luc Barthelet said a new console version is coming this fall. Tell us what you think about it on the right or at this page.

225. Luc Leaves Maxis (and gives some info away...)
Written on Thursday 25 March 2004 at 12:50 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
In his latest weekly e-mail, Luc Barthelet has told us that he's leaving Maxis. The company that made The Sims is moving to a new location this week, and as it happens Luc is "also personally moving to new endeavors". It's still going to be within EA though, but it will be a while until we'll hear from Luc again: "I can say is that it will take a few years to come out and it will probably involve the Sims and other EA properties in a completely new way." Also, he announced a bit for the next E3 in May 2004. Luc says there's going to be another console version of The Sims this fall, which will be announced just before the E3. During the E3, you will be able to see it. The Sims 2 will be there for a second time too, but this time it's possible to play the latest Sims game. The E3 is the biggest gaming exposition in the world, held on 11-14 May in Los Angeles. A lot of games press will be around checking out all the latest games. If Luc will be there too is unsure, but Neil Young, who produced EA hit 'Return of the King' before, probably will be. He's taking over as General Manager at Maxis, doing what Barthelet has been doing since 1997. GameSpot has written an article about that move too. Lucy Bradshaw, Executive Producer of The Sims 2, will now be sending several websites the latest and greatest of the Sims 2 every week. In the "Read More" bit, I've copied Luc's complete e-mail, for the fans...

227. Official site gets new Layout
Written on Tuesday 10 February 2004 at 18:43 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Maxis has updated the layout of the official site. To be specific, it now uses slightly different navigation. The Bustin' Out section was hidden behind a "Console" button until now: you can now easily access all pages of Bustin' Out directly fromt the menu, no matter on which page you are. The graphics have also been updated, and you can now see in which section you are as the item in the menu is highlighted. If you want to see it, go to the official site.

228. Bustin' Out Game Guide
Written on Monday 9 February 2004 at 18:21 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Games site Gamespot has posted a huge game guide of The Sims Bustin' Out on the consoles. It's a complete guide which discusses many aspects of the game, from creating Sims to their homes, careers and relations. There's also a special section completely about the Bustin' Out mode which gives information about all the locations. Finally they've also included the cheats. Spread over 34 pages in total, this is a very useful guide. GameSpot Basic members will be able to read it online, but complete members can in addition download the guide in PDF format, suitable for printing. That way you can have the guide right next to you while playing the game. You can read it all at this page. It's free to sign up for GameSpot Basic, note that this guide is not for the GBA version.

229. SimDay
Written on Thursday 29 January 2004 at 10:35 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
This week's SimDay is more of the same really. That doesn't make it less nice though. First of all, there are 6 more MP3 files of Bustin' Out. These tunes, and the 12 from the past two weeks, can be downloaded from this page. Secondly, The Sims has been voted in the top 10 family games of 2003 at Daytrum:
"For those who like to meddle and micro-manage the lives of tiny, virtual people in a strategy game, there's Electronic Arts' The Sims. In the best version yet for the consoles, The Sims Bustin' Out lets players take their Sims out of the house and into new locations to play and work and interact with new characters. On the PC, The Sims Double Deluxe bundles the original The Sims game with the fun Livin' Large and House Party expansion packs to add more features, objects and places. And if you want to add some magic to your sim experience, there's the latest add-on, The Sims Makin' Magic, which gives sims magical powers."
You can read the whole article right here. Then there's The Sims 2 stuff: there are 3 screenshots, which have been posted here last weekend. You can now find them at the official site too. Finally there's a new interview with a webmaster again. This time it's my turn, so if you're one of the few who wants to know what games I play, what I think of The Sims 2 and EA and more, then enjoy the read. Remember to join the chat tonight at 11am (7pm in the UK, 8pm in Europe) tonight.

230. 2 New Sims 2 Screens
Written on Wednesday 21 January 2004 at 22:32 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
There are 2 new Sims 2 screenshots from the Sims 2 Scoop mailing list that all subscribers have received earlier today. These screenshots show two objects that you can earn if you get up high in specific career tracks. That means that there is a little bit of the console "Get A Life" mode left in The Sims 2, namely trying to climb up in the career ladder to unlock those hidden objects. Be sure to check out those screens by clicking the thumbnails below.
