A little late newspost, but either way a new poll was launched yesterday - as usual. This time we're wondering what you think of the Sims 2 University, the first expansion pack for the Sims 2. Give your opinion on the right or on the
latest poll page. Last week we asked you if you already got the Urbz. Exactly one third of the 234 people who voted said they "
hate the looks of the Urbz." The closest choice, with about 30.5% of the votes, was the lack of money. 21% said they'll get it later, whereas 6.5% already got the game and loves it. 4% told us it's a fairly good game, but 3% got it and doens't like it too much after all. The final 2%, which are 5 people, absolutely hate the game and probably regret they got it. You can view the exact results on the
results page.
952. More University Interviews and Shots

Two more interviews and a few more screenshots: that's what's been posted since the earlier update about the first expansion pack for the Sims 2. Games site
GameSpot interviewed Kevin Hogan, and
IGN. Some new details are revealed in them: just like currently done in the Sims 2, when your teen becomes a young adult by moving to the university terrain, time will progress only for the sim you're playing and not their family. The life stage will be roughly twice as long as the teen stage, which would mean approximately 30 days, but in the end it depends on how well the Sim does and how fast they get their degree. There's a lot more info, including some screens...

953. First University Screenshots & Interview

The first screenshots for the first expansion of the Sims 2, announced
yesterday, have already appeared. You can see the shots from
WorthPlaying and
GameSpy below. But there's not only that: there's also an interview posted by GameSpy about the expansion pack. Producer Kevin Hogan was asked some questions. The interview reveals a few more details, for instance that teens have to go to college to become young adults, the new life stage. Once they finish college, they will become adults. If you don't let your teens go there, then they won't go through the new life stage. By choosing a major, you also affect which skills the sim develops, and which of the new careers they'll roll into. As with the Sims 1, the university campus will get its own neighborhood map, though it's connected with the actual neighborhood. The maps will of course be customisable.

EA will officially announce the first expansion pack for the Sims 2 tomorrow, althoug the press release is already available. As
expected, the pack will be titled "University". It's set to be shipped in March 2005. In the game, a new life stage for Sims will be introduced, called "Young Adult." These young adults can go to college where they follow one of 11 majors, and of course "
join the campus crowd." After that they can earn money in 4 new career tracks, or the ten old ones of course. The university lifestyle will be mimicked in the Sims with dorms, parties and exams:
"In The Sims 2 University players for the first time will play through the new "young adult" life stage as their Sims head off to college and join the campus crowd. Whether they live in the dorms or rush a fraternity or sorority that's just the beginning... Sims can choose from one of 11 majors and by keeping their grades on track, they'll secure a final degree and open up 4 new career paths. Players will enjoy all-new college based wants and fears that are tied to their Sims' social life and academic goals which will lead to new rewards and powers that will help them achieve their goals and aspirations in college and beyond.
"Pranks, parties and college social interactions add to the excitement while your Sims explore campus locations such as college lounges, pool halls, gyms and coffee houses. As in real life, if your Sims start running low on funds, they can earn Simoleans by picking up a part time job, like tutoring, or engaging in riskier affairs like printing money as a member of the 'secret society.'"
For more information, read the
press release. Thanks to all of those who submitted the news.

The first patch for the Sims 2 is almost ready and should be released very soon. That's what Maxis posted on the
official site yesterday, in a new
newspost. The post contains a full list of fixes too. Below are a few of the things that will be fixed, check the
newspost for the full list:
- Fixes "the jump bug" causing Sims with a large number of memories to reset, or "jump," when performing interactions.
- Visitors will no longer kidnap a baby or toddler by leaving the lot while carrying them.
- Sims can now plan outfits for toddlers by using the changing table.
- A Sim whose fiancé dies can now become engaged again.
- Maids can now clean up pizza boxes and baby bottles.
- Fixes problems with the grim reaper and social worker that would disable save UI.
- Fixes the extremely rare problem where the UI would become disabled when an elder dies of old age.
- An adopted baby no longer snaps to the ground when the social worker that delivers it puts it in a crib.
- Sims now take a copy of all clothing in the family's inventory when they move out.
- Users with limited user accounts can now run the game.
- The game no longer affects a user's modem settings when connecting to the internet via the modem.
It's not said when exactly the patch will be posted, though it's "
very, very soon." It's currently in the final stages of certification, so the wait is almost over. Of course we'll let you know here when it's arrived.

The
official site has been updated again this simday, for example with a new intro promoting the exchange and the Sims 2 instead of the Urbz. Real news however, is an
interview with the guys behind the
Strangerhood, Rooster Teeth Productions.
GameSpy follows the colleagues of
IGN who had an interview with Matt Hullum from Rooster Teeth a
month ago. GameSpy talked to him, as well as Gustavo Sorola and Geoff Fink for this interview. It's 6 pages long and full of interesting (and less interesting) information:
"I refuse to recognize the difficulty to pronounce the word "machinima." I say let's work together and re-brand this type of movie making "rendervision." See? Doesn't that sound much better? Plus you don't have to constantly ask people if you're saying it properly. Rendervision... it just rolls off the tongue."
Read the entire interview if you need to know more. Furthermore, The Sims 2 got nominated for two video game awards at
SpikeTV's Video Game Awards. The game has been nominated in the Best PC Game and Most Addictive Game categories. The awards will be hosted at 19 December by Snoop Dogg. You can see all the nominations and vote for your favourites at the
VGA 2004 site.

This week's UrbzDay really comes with just a new Comic and descriptions of the pets. The latter can be found in the
crew section, where you'll meet the bulldog, the cat and the monkey (consoles), or the chicken, some dogs, a lizzard and a pet dragon for the GBA. No descriptions for these guys, just pictures (and sketches) are to be viewed. The comic takes us to
Skyline Beach this time. It's written by
Jim Mahfood, and can be found through the
Comix section along with the rest of them.
Finally, the official site now has the city guide that
GameSpot posted
earlier. Check it out on the
city guide section of the official site to tour through the city. That's all from Maxis this week. We'll soon put up a review index as usual for this game, and we'll have our own review a bit later. Stay tuned for those.

960. The Sims Zone turns 3!

It's been 3 years already since we
started as The Sims Zone. Although this site existed before as TheSimsFusion, and SimsZone before that, we've been running under the current name since 17 November 2001. Besides the several moves between servers (like
last weekend), we've been keeping you up-to-date with the latest news and info about the Sims continuously, which has resulted in well over 3.6 million unique visitors to the Sims Zone so far. We've also introduced several new features since our launch, including our
members section (have you registered yet?),
SimBrother (have you watched the 3 series?), and our
knowledge base (have you posted your questions there?). Of course we won't stop in the following year(s) - expect more news, info, articles, reviews, polls, and a lot of other things from the team behind the Sims Zone right on this site - of course all about the Sims franchise. I want to thank the entire team, including former team members, especially Matt and Matthew, former webmasters of SimsZone and TheSimsFusion, for the effort they've put in this site the past years. Let's hope it'll never stop, just like the Sims!
