591. Bustin' Out Game Guide
Written on Monday 9 February 2004 at 18:21 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Games site Gamespot has posted a huge game guide of The Sims Bustin' Out on the consoles. It's a complete guide which discusses many aspects of the game, from creating Sims to their homes, careers and relations. There's also a special section completely about the Bustin' Out mode which gives information about all the locations. Finally they've also included the cheats. Spread over 34 pages in total, this is a very useful guide. GameSpot Basic members will be able to read it online, but complete members can in addition download the guide in PDF format, suitable for printing. That way you can have the guide right next to you while playing the game. You can read it all at this page. It's free to sign up for GameSpot Basic, note that this guide is not for the GBA version.

592. Sims News of the Future
Written on Monday 9 February 2004 at 18:14 by ChEeTaH - 7 comments.
Everybody knows (or should know) that The Sims 2 has been delayed until the second half of this year. That can cause strange stories when the press is in a silly mood. GameSpot is playing with this recent news and has posted a feature containing (fake) news of the future. In an article dated 24 September 2005, GameSpot reveals details of another expansion pack for The Sims, the fourth after the first delay of The Sims 2: Playin' Sims. Expansions 8, 9 and 10 would be "Mowin' Lawns", "Doin' Taxes" and "Retirement Home". In Playin' Sims, Sims can sit behind their computers and play a game called "The Verts", a simulation game, to keep their moods up. They will have to buy expansion packs regularly to keep up-to-date. Sounds familiar? Anyway, read the whole article here. For more news from the future about other games, click here.

593. Poll Results
Written on Thursday 5 February 2004 at 01:06 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last week we've asked you how you felt about the delay of The Sims 2. As most people probably know, it's been pushed back to the second half of 2004. About 40% is "very angry". 25% prefers a good game rather than a buggy one, and another 16% rather plays a finished and nearly bugfree game. For the exact poll results, click here. This week we want to know how long you've been playing The Sims. Tell us by answering the question on the right or at this page. More results can be found in our poll archive.

594. Sims 2 Delay: Maxis Speaks
Written on Monday 2 February 2004 at 22:45 by ChEeTaH - 8 comments.
Luc Barthelet, General Manager of Maxis, has sent out a statement to several fansites about the recently announced delay of The Sims 2. Here's what he has to say:
"As you are all aware, The Sims 2 ship date has been moved to the latter half of 2004. We have heard from an enormous amount of you and your communications have been zealous. We fully understand your disappointment and frustration. The fact that you are all so passionate is both inspiring and encouraging to the production team and means we must be on the right track with the game.

"I can’t overstate the fact that it is a huge undertaking to produce the next generation of the #1 PC game of all time. As our most valued fans of the franchise, you all understand better than everyone else what those expectations are. As we said on the website, the bar has been set extremely high.

"This decision was an incredibly difficult one but the best for us to make. We have learned through past experience, that a game is ready when it is ready. In the coming months, we will be polishing the game in order to fulfill our ultimate product vision. We know you are excited about what you have seen to date but, let me tell you, the best is yet to come.

[...] "Finally, I wanted to take this time to thank you for all of your support. We have all been in this together from the beginning. We value all of your contributions and know that, together, we will make The Sims 2, the best game of all time."

Luc Barthelet
Besides all that, he also told us that last Saturday's screens show what the fans wanted to see the most. That's all from Luc for now, more coming soon.

595. New at TSZ: Knowledge Section!
Written on Sunday 1 February 2004 at 01:00 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
You might've read about it already last week, when we said we were going to launch a new Knowledge feature at TSZ. After much hard work and testing, it's finally ready, and so we've just launched it. In this section, you can find all the help you need with the several Sims games. If you can't find your answer using the search options, simply post the question, and somebody else will answer it sooner or later. You don't have to keep coming back looking if there's an answer, as you will receive an e-mail automatically once a new answer has been posted to any of the questions you're subscribed to. The Knowledge database is there for everybody - you can always view questions and answers. If you want to post a question or answer, then make sure you are a registered member of The Sims Zone.

We've already filled up the space with some questions and answers, just so everybody can already find some help with the most frequently asked questions. Of course, you can always ask more - as many as you want. All the questions are posted in several categories, so you can quite easily find the answers to your questions. Even if you don't have a problem, you can always feel free to post both a question and answer, so you immediately help other people. We hope everybody will find this section helpful.

596. SimDay
Written on Thursday 29 January 2004 at 10:35 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
This week's SimDay is more of the same really. That doesn't make it less nice though. First of all, there are 6 more MP3 files of Bustin' Out. These tunes, and the 12 from the past two weeks, can be downloaded from this page. Secondly, The Sims has been voted in the top 10 family games of 2003 at Daytrum:
"For those who like to meddle and micro-manage the lives of tiny, virtual people in a strategy game, there's Electronic Arts' The Sims. In the best version yet for the consoles, The Sims Bustin' Out lets players take their Sims out of the house and into new locations to play and work and interact with new characters. On the PC, The Sims Double Deluxe bundles the original The Sims game with the fun Livin' Large and House Party expansion packs to add more features, objects and places. And if you want to add some magic to your sim experience, there's the latest add-on, The Sims Makin' Magic, which gives sims magical powers."
You can read the whole article right here. Then there's The Sims 2 stuff: there are 3 screenshots, which have been posted here last weekend. You can now find them at the official site too. Finally there's a new interview with a webmaster again. This time it's my turn, so if you're one of the few who wants to know what games I play, what I think of The Sims 2 and EA and more, then enjoy the read. Remember to join the chat tonight at 11am (7pm in the UK, 8pm in Europe) tonight.

597. New Poll
Written on Thursday 29 January 2004 at 01:00 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
It's time for a new weekly poll again. But first, past week's results. We got a lot of answers to the question if your Sims get abducted by aliens often. 802 people (!) voted, and the results are somewhat surprising. Over 50% doesn't know how it can happen. For those people: buy a telescope, and let your Sims look through it at night. If you're lucky (or not, depending on how you think of it) your Sim will be abducted. Here are all results:
  • It happens all the time! - 7.98% (64)
  • Some of them, yes - 12.09% (97)
  • Rarely, but it happened a few times - 23.69% (190)
  • Never, I protect my Sims against that - 3.99% (32)
  • Alien abduction? How? - 52.24% (419)
This week we wonder how you feel about today's news that The Sims 2 has been delayed until the second half of 2004. You can vote on the right, or by going to this page. For more results of old polls, take a peek in our poll archive.

598. The Sims 2 Delayed
Written on Wednesday 28 January 2004 at 11:52 by ChEeTaH - 29 comments.
Yesterday EA announced their financial results over the third quarter of fiscal 2004, which ended 31 December 2003. In the full press release there's also a bit of outlook on the fiscal 2005. This is what we can read about The Sims 2:
"We expect that The Sims(TM) 2.0 and Medal of Honor Pacific Assault(TM) will ship in fiscal 2005."
GameSpot reports that it won't even be the second or third quarter of fiscal 2005 until we see the release of the two games. That has also been confirmed by the official site, which now states that The Sims 2 will be released in the "later half of '04" in a news update. If so, that'd mean the game would be released between July and December 2004. Such a delay would be necessary to polish up the games, although it's probably also a strategic move to boost the fiscal 2005 sales. More information can be found at this page (Press release), this page (News Update), this page (IGN) and finally this page (GameSpot).

Finally there's a bit of news about Bustin' Out in the same press release: it's said that that game is one of the big games which performed well during the holiday sales, as the results of the third quarter of fiscal 2004 were driven by that as well as several other games. Of course we'll keep you updated about the Sims 2 release date.

599. Sims 2 Preview disc at McDonalds [Update]
Written on Tuesday 27 January 2004 at 13:33 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
If you live in the USA and stopy by at the McDonalds to eat, you can also get a new preview disc of The Sims 2 by LidRock. The CD contains a sneak preview of The Sims, some exclusive items for The Sims, a Sims Pinball game, the Desktop Gnome (from Makin' Magic), and, exclusive to the cd, a cheat code for Bustin' Out on the PS2 and an all-new Sims 2 mini-game. It's available since yesterday, for a limited time only. For more information, click here.

[Update 21.30] As The Sims Resource 2 reports, the CD's will only be sold in participating McDonald's in the Atlanta area. You might also be able to find some at eBay. Meanwhile, with thanks to Hikikomori, you can download the Sims pinball game at this page. Perhaps the other exclusives will be made available as download as well later.

600. SimCity 5 speculation
Written on Sunday 25 January 2004 at 17:33 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
IGN reports that recent speculations about SimCity 5 being in development should not be taken seriously. On French television, Maxis general manager Luc Barthelet said that SimCity 5 is currently in development. However, when Maxis called IGN Maxis stated that they "are focused on shipping The Sims 2 at this time. [...] To read anything into Luc Barthelet's comments is incorrect. [...] Any speculation as to SimCity 5 is premature". According to Luc in last thursday's chat, he also got "into real trouble." for saying that SC5 was being developed. As there's often some truth in rumours, and the job opening for the "Next Generation" of SimCity, it seems likely that SimCity 5 is in the works and that Maxis is trying to cover up at the moment. In the past Maxis also denied some Sims expansion packs when there were rumours about them because of pre-order options, especially Superstar and Makin' Magic. Of course it isn't definite yet until EA releases a press release about it, but to many people it seems likely that SimCity 5 will come to your PC in probably a couple of years. We'll keep you updated.
