41. Pets Announcement at July 27?
Written on Tuesday 18 July 2006 at 02:44 by ChEeTaH - 8 comments.
A couple of days ago we reported how a temporary information page of the Sims 2 Pets at GameSpy had "Hold for July 27th" in the title, hinting towards an announcement date of July 27th, when the PC expansion pack and console/handheld game will be officially announced. Now there's a new hint towards that date. A month ago, at 15 June, Don Laabs, Senior Producer for Maxis, wrote a letter to the community. In that letter he wrote "the official announcement is slated to happen in several weeks." Now Don's blog has a little message saying "'Several' = 6.00." Counting 6 weeks from June 15 is indeed exactly on 27 July, which now is most likely the date when Maxis will officially let us know more about Pets and pawprints. Naturally we'll report about anything happening on and before that day regarding the game, so stay tuned for details.

43. Show the World How You Play
Written on Tuesday 13 June 2006 at 01:37 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
The Sims Played By campaign hasn't been updated for a while, not since February when it was for Open for Business. Probably for the upcoming expansion pack, and possibly console games as well, the advertising company for EA, W+K, is again looking for fans of the game to show how they play the game. To get in all you have to do is fill in a questionnaire, and submit some of your work. The questions in the questionnaire again hint towards the pets expansion, with questions like "If you could teach a pet any trick what would it be and why," and "Write a short story about a walrus, a toaster, two pounds of dog food and an umbrella." If you're lucky, you might be invited to EA to work on the next advertising campaign. For more details about entering, see the information page on the official site.

44. Sims 2 Pets: Rumours and new Video
Written on Wednesday 24 May 2006 at 23:18 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
With the appearing of the Sims 2 Pets at E3, rumours about the game have sprung up as well. Gaming shop EB Games had the title in their database for several platforms; first PSP, later on several alternative platforms (PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, GameCube and the GBA), but by now all product pages for the Sims 2: Pets have been removed. Although it's not unthinkable that a Sims title for consoles and handhelds is currently in the make, the Sims 2: Pets is more than likely the fourth expansion pack for the PC, considering the full E3 trailer (see TheSidDog.com for a new video, near the bottom of the page) has PC-like graphics, and a message from EA just before the E3 saying that the next EP would be shown at the E3. Naturally we'll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news about upcoming Sims games, but until then it's safest to assume that the Sims 2: Pets is primarily the next PC expansion pack.

45. No Sims at E3
Written on Saturday 6 May 2006 at 00:26 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Electronic Arts, publisher of the Sims franchise and owner of Maxis, the creating studio, has announced its E3 line-up today. The E3 expo is the world's biggest expo where publishers and developers show their upcoming games to the press, and is traditionally the show where a lot of news regarding games comes from. During the past couple of years the Sims was there every year, with console games as well as a PC game (either the Sims 2 itself or an expansion pack). This year however, there's no Sims title in the (announced) line-up. Although a PC expansion pack is still not unlikely for later this year, as well as one or more other Stuff packs, it makes a console/handheld title less likely for this year. There's one Maxis title on the show floor though, Spore, which we'll be reporting on from the E3 through our sister site The Spore Zone. For more details see the entire EA E3 Line-up.

46. Survey Revealed EP ideas
Written on Saturday 6 May 2006 at 00:06 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
Last week the official site briefly had a survey online, most of which was about the last expansion pack, Open for Business. The first half of the questions was about how you heard about OfB, what you like most about it, etc., but after that a couple of possible expansion pack concepts where given. Whether Maxis is planning to make one of these, or perhaps already making one, is unsure, but it's very well possible that one of the ideas will actually be made into an official expansion pack. Of course pets are mentioned again, as well as the returning vacation idea which has appeared in previous surveys as well, albeit a little different, and this time mentioning weather as well. Other ideas are about taking Sims back in time, a new hospital in town, expanding on the youth years of the Sims, seasons (including neighborhood changes and weather), and castaway Sims on a tropical island. Finally there's also a somewhat different idea, which is much like an adventure game as seen on handhelds before: something strange has happened in the neighborhood, and by socialising you need to figure out details of the puzzle to solve the mystery.

Besides the concepts, several new features were given of which a couple could be picked as favourite which should appear in a future expansion pack for the Sims 2. Plans for the Next Generation consoles - XBox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii (known as Revolution earlier) - also seem to exist, as one question asked about interest in a game on one of those consoles. So far no details of new console games have been announced though. The eight expansion concepts and 27 features are all in the read more bit of this newspost.

47. Sims on Next Gen Consoles?
Written on Saturday 25 February 2006 at 23:31 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last year the Sims 2 was released on the PlayStation 2, XBox and GameCube. Following the release schedule for consoles of the past couple of years, a new game can be expected near the end of this year. GameSpot has now posted something in their Rumour Control section, about the Sims moving to the next generation of consoles; specifically the PlayStation 3, and possibly also the XBox 360 and maybe Nintendo's revolution. Rumours were fueled by a job opening for a future Sims project, for a PS3 (PlayStation 3) engineer. The PS3 was singled out though, there were no openings for XBox 360 or Revolution engineers. Even though development costs for the next generation consoles are generally high, and the Sims hasn't been doing as well as EA had hoped for, so-called "microtransactions" might be what will help EA make a bigger profit; sell extra downloads for a small fee. Nothing has been confirmed yet, and EA is not commenting on the rumours, but GameSpot deems it likely that the Sims will indeed make a move to the next generation. More details can be found in GameSpot's article.

48. Sims 3 Rumours [Update]
Written on Tuesday 24 January 2006 at 00:57 by ChEeTaH - 5 comments.
It's no surprise that, after Maxis started working on the Sims 2 fairly soon after the Sims 1 was finished, that they're now working on the Sims 3 for PC already. Sims2Network disovered that the clients page of Feng Zhu Design showed Maxis as one of the clients for the company before. The project that was mentioned with it, was "Sims 3". Unsure is whether this is already for the PC version of the game, or rather the next Sims title for consoles, but time will have to tell.

[Update 26 January, 20:45] In an article at IGN another company, Gamma Ray Studios also had Maxis listed for a Sims 3 title. An EA spokesperson also told IGN that although fans can't get enough of the franchise, and that EA is always looking for new ideas for the Sims, any speculation is premature until an announcement is made by EA. IGN also says the work the two mentioned companies do is usually done during early stages of development, which means the Sims 3 is still years away.

49. French Sims Magazine
Written on Tuesday 24 January 2006 at 00:51 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
That the Sims 2 is popular in France was already proved when the game got its own stamp. Now the Sims 2 is also getting a magazine in France, which is for sale for 7.50 Euros. Besides the magazine itself, which contains articles with tips for the PC game, information about the Consoles and Handheld versions, a history of the Sims, stories, and more, you also get an extra DVD. The DVD contains 500+ objects, patches, videos and tools for the Sims 2 on PC. A new copy of the magazine will be distributed every quarter, although it will only be available in France. For more details, check out the French newspage. Below you can see the cover of the first issue.

50. The Sims 2 (Consoles) - Our Review
Written on Friday 16 December 2005 at 03:54 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Christmas is coming up soon, and if you don't know what you want to get then maybe the Sims is for you. Nightlife has been out for a while, there's the Holiday Party Pack that Andy reviewed, but also the Sims 2 on Consoles and Handhelds. We've taken a look at the PlayStation 2 version of the game, which is pretty much the same as the XBox and GameCube ones, and after checking out the game thoroughly, the review is finally ready. Time for us to let you know whether the game is worth it, despite the (minor) issues and glitches:
"Once you're done creating a Sim, you're ready to be thrown in the story. Well... Story might be a bit optimistic. Your goals are based on golden and platinum wants. Your Sim has one of these at any time, where a golden want helps you through the lot and a platinum one unlocks one of the 12 locations. You'll first need to complete the gold wants before you get a platinum one. Although at the beginning of the story you'll only need to control your Sim, and fulfil golden wants of your Sim, this changes after a short while. You have to help other Sims with their golden wants as well, and so progress through the story."
So if you're interested...
