1. New Patch introduces Dynamic Ad Functionality
Written on Wednesday 2 June 2010 at 00:02 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A new Sims 3 patch was released today. It introduces various features seen in the Ambitions expansion pack (also released today), like the combined message UI, the Edit Town mode, and the ability to use patterns on ceilings. Game modifications (mods) also get some better support, as placing them in a special folder is now possible out of the box. More remarkable, however, is the support for dynamic advertising technologies by IGA Worldwide. The EULA of The Sims 3 contains information about this technology, specifically what data EA can collect. This includes IP address, which is removed after the game session, a unique installation/console ID number, how long, where in the game and from which angle advertisements are shown. To prevent ads from being shown and tracked, disconnecting from the Internet is the recommended option. The EULA does say no information to personally identify you is collected through this mechanism. Also there are currently no plans to actually use the technology, but with the patch it does become an option. This means we may be watching real-life advertisements from The Sims 3 games sooner or later. Further information can be found in the Update page. To download and install the patch, you can use your Sims 3 launcher.

2. MySims Released
Written on Tuesday 2 October 2007 at 01:25 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Sims fans with a Nintendo Wii or DS have a new game to add to their collection: MySims. The Sims title with its own twist is now available in stores worldwide. The game is about entering a rundown town and to make it thrive again. All through customizing objects and buildings, as well as - of course - your very own Sim. The game contains 60 characters to meet and do jobs for, and make good use of the unique controls on both platforms. More details can be found in the press release and MySims.ea.com where you can also play some mini games. More Sims on consoles (Wii and DS again, as well as PS2 and PSP) is coming in the form of The Sims Castaway later this month or next month (PSP).

3. Pets for Wii Previews
Written on Thursday 14 June 2007 at 03:25 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Several Pre- and reviews of the Sims 2 Pets for Nintendo's Wii have appeard on the web recently. The game is almost a direct port of the PlayStation 2/GameCube version of the game, but focuses on the Infra-Red technology of the Wii to do the controls. There are four articles, all of which say basically the same: there's no much difference with the versions released on the other two consoles earlier. The Wii's remote is the main new feature, as it allows you to just basically draw the outline of your houses using the Wiimote as a sort of pencil. The pointer then allows you to apply floors, set up wall locations and apply paint to the walls as well. As it behaves much like a mouse it works well for the Sims. Other than that the articles cover the base aspects of the game, which have already been discussed thoroughly when the game was released last year. So without diving into each (p)review in detail, just follow the links below to read the full articles:

4. Pets Coming for Wii
Written on Wednesday 2 May 2007 at 19:57 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
After last year's release of Pets for various platforms, including Nintendo's GameCube and DS already, the game is now also coming to the Wii. Expected in June, the game will be similar to the other console versions (PlayStation 2, GameCube and PSP) of the Sims 2 Pets. The only main difference will be that it's easier to control with the Wii controllers: you can just point and click to direct Sims, grab walls and furniture and place them around, all using the Nunchuck and the Wii remote. Information is available on the product page, where you can also find a slightly new trailer for the Wii version.

5. The Sims on iPod / iPhone
Written on Tuesday 27 February 2007 at 00:39 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
In a recent announcement EA revealed that they will be developing games for Apple's iPod and iPhone. The goal is to have gamers on every platform, from PC to their consoles in the living room, and on the road on a handheld or phone. EA (Mobile) Games have already been on sale through Apple's iTunes, and although no exact figures are given, it is a tremendous success, according to Javier Ferreira, vice president of publishing for EA Mobile. Although details are still scarce, one of the games mentioned to be taken to Apple's gadgets is the Sims. Ferreira: "The more devices that people can play on, the better. You'll see people play The Sims on the Xbox, the PC, their iPod and then the mobile phone." Some more details about the EA/Apple collaboration check out the full article at GamesIndustry.biz. Thanks to TheSims2.co.za for finding it. As soon as we have more details about the Sims on iPod and/or iPhone, we'll let you know.

Last week EA finished and released the full patch for the Sims 2 Pets. Following the Body Shop patch in December last year (which has now been retracted) this game solves gameplay issues as well as the Body Shop compatibility problems from the previous patch. There are two versions of the patch, one for the CD/DVD edition and another for the digital download (EA Link) version of the game. Make sure you get the right patch, as well as any previous patches for Expansion and Stuff packs you own to ensure proper functioning of your game. The patch fixes 39 issues, including the following. Go to the update page for the full list.
  • Fixed an issue where pointed-ear dogs would become corrupt when moved into a lot.
  • Custom college lots will no longer be deleted if no Sims are living on it.
  • Influencing Sims to fight another Sim will no longer cause non-werewolf Sims to turn into a werewolf.
  • "Barstool by Simulated Comfort" can now be used when 3 barstools are placed side-by-side.

  • Sims can now correctly try for baby under the maximum Sim limit.
  • Cats no longer can become stuck in the litter box.
  • Turned on "HydroBot" and "SentryBot" are no longer deleted after installing The Sims 2 Pets.
  • Two or more teens will no longer refuse to go to school if there is no nanny or adult on the lot.
  • "Tropico Avian Sanctuary" and "FMCU 3000" objects can now be deleted if the last Sim dies on the lot.
  • Sims are now able to call the fire department on an owned community lot.
  • Awning can now be deleted from a saved lot.
  • Teens and Elders will no longer be promoted without meeting necessary requirements.
  • Customer NPCs now change into new outfits that they have purchased.

9. Pets Reviews
Written on Sunday 7 January 2007 at 00:37 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
First of all a happy new year from the Sims Zone. We hope you had some nice holidays, and are ready for another year of Sims. We are, and after a little break we're back again with the news.

Since Pets was released on various platforms in the last quarter of last year many websites have taken the chance to play one or more versions of the game. With thanks to GameRankings we have a fairly complete list of reviews per platform. The PC version is generally well accepted, with the biggest problem being the difficulties in managing the Sims' needs with all the time constraints already on their daily life. The same problem goes for the console version, but they also have some control issues, as well as a limited neighborhood size. The handheld versions are less popular, and especially the PSP version is criticised for the long loading times interrupting the gameplay a lot. The DS version is too much of a vet simulator and not so much a Sims game, the graphics (especially of the pets) aren't great, and the sound keeps repeating itself. There's only one review of the GBA version, in which the game is described as fun, but it lacks personality. The game is good, but not because of the pets. Read on to find the entire list of review ordered by platform.

10. The Sims Life Stories Product Info
Written on Friday 17 November 2006 at 16:40 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The Sims Life Stories was recently rumoured in several ways by EA. More confirmation and actual product information now comes from Switzerland, which the online shop ABC Software had published. Our affiliate SimsZone reported the news, and although the product page is now removed, the German text has been posted on their forums.

Life Stories will be a new laptop-friendly version of the Sims 2. The focus lies on quick gameplay, based on stories you can tell, much like earlier console versions. You play Laura, who is moving back home, to start a new life with new friends, experiences and unexpected surprises. A bonus story lets you play the life of Lukas, a geek with an unlucky romantic life. The classic Sims gameplay is also available, so you create a house, sims, and tell their stories.

The laptop aspect is introduced with special easy shortcuts, as well as an auto-pause feature that pauses the game as you close the lid of your laptop. You can also stay in touch with your friends over IM, Chat and Email, as the game runs in its own window. The Sims Life stories is the beginning of a series, with a pets expansion pack coming first. In the future an island expansion pack will be released as well, where you'll control the story of a shipwrecked Sim on a tropical island. These ideas match the domains EA registered earlier. The release date is rumoured to be late January 2007. We'll let you know when more information is available.
