41. Superstar Review (with more Spellbound confirmation)
Written on Friday 13 June 2003 at 02:54 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
The European site EuroGamer has posted a review of Superstar. It's one like we've seen many, but it reveals a small bit about Spellbound, which will probably be expansion 7:
"The sad thing is that Superstar stands up as one of the best expansions for The Sims, but as the latest in a series of six it's about as exciting as news of another Friday the 13th sequel. Although it's obvious that Maxis still has ideas (what with another expansion planned for the end of the year, and a true sequel thereafter), our patience is wearing thin, and even at £15 the cynical Superstar isn't glamorous enough to light up our lives. Buy it if you still play The Sims."
The review itself is not too great, especially one sentence that's a bit odd and proves of bad (or no) research done: they say "If you're an avid Sims follower, then you'll probably count The Sims Bustin' Out, Hot Date, House Party, Livin' It Up, On Holiday and Unleashed amongst the possessions dotted around your frequently rearranged, sick, urine and fly-covered abode". Besides it'd be more logical to put the expansion packs in the order of release, Bustin' Out isn't yet released (and won't be until 2004). The review isn't too in-depth, and could probably be the worst one so far. The rating is definately the lowest so far: the game scores just 5 out of 10. 42. What pet do you like?
Written on Thursday 12 June 2003 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
We've got a new poll again, this time about Unleashed: what's your favourite pet you can buy in Unleashed. If you want to let us know, vote on the right or on this page. As for last week's poll: there are quite many superstars, 22% of the people who voted said their best Superstar had 5 stars. 25% doesn't have Superstar yet. All the other options (0-4.5 stars) received less votes (between 1 and 10%). An amazing 362 people voted in the poll, which is more than usual. For all the results, click here. Don't forget to vote this week!

43. New Superstar review
Written on Wednesday 11 June 2003 at 00:55 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A new, rather short, review of Superstar has appeared again. Gaming Nexus didn't have a real in-depth look, and unlike others doesn't complain about the bugs in the game. However, there's one original idea in it:
"A change that should be implemented into future Sims expansion packs would be allowing the creator/player to purchase house items and placing them on angles. Symmetry gets extremely boring after awhile. Angles would allow the creator to build much more interesting houses and I think certain Sims would be happier too."
Probably not in an expansion pack, maybe in The Sims 2. Gaming Nexus also gives the game the highest rating so far, 9.0. You can read the review this page. All the Superstar reviews can be found in our review index.

44. The Add-On Handler - Update coming soon!
Written on Sunday 8 June 2003 at 19:01 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Recently I've been working on The Add-On Handler again. I expect a new version to be released in a few weeks' time. Besides adding support for Superstar, it'll also have a new function: FAR Objects. That will put your downloaded objects in one FAR-file, which speeds up the loading time of The Sims (especially if you have many downloaded objects). It can still take up to 2 or 3 weeks before that version's finished though, so I hope you can be that patient. Until then, you can use The Neighborhood Handler 4.10 (not earlier!) to install Studio Town areas. Fashion skins cannot be properly installed by one of my tools yet, but as said The Add-On Handler 0.2b will be able to do that. Currently, you can download version 0.1.2b (without Superstar support) from this page (Full version), or from this page (Upgrade version).

45. More Superstar Reviews
Written on Sunday 8 June 2003 at 01:32 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
We've spotted another 2 reviews for Superstar. Both discuss the unresolved technical issues, the humour the game adds, how hard it is to become Superstar (including keeping those mood-bars green), the outdated graphics and more. What both editors find the most annoying issue is that some actions you give your Sim are just dropped and ignored. They're also waiting for The Sims 2. Which sites I'm talking about? This review from Gaming Horizon, and this one from IGN. The one from Gaming Horizon also discusses the annoying installation procedure, which asks for several CDs. They give the game a 7.4 out of 10 score, while IGN gives a 8.3 out of 10. You can find quotes of these reviews, and others, in our review index.

46. Superstar Review
Written on Friday 6 June 2003 at 01:42 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Some people like Superstar, others are completely annoyed with all the bugs and the slow scrolling and zooming that come with it (for free). The Gamers Temple also mentions these issues, but still give the game a score of 87%. Here's a little bit from their 2-page review:
"The entertainment career is a welcome addition to The Sims because players now finally have control over their sims at work. The amount of money that you bring home each day is entirely dependent on how well you do while at Studio Town. The dark side to this is that you can just as easily come home with your pockets empty. Starting out as an entertainer is quite challenging; the fame objects to which you'll initially have access won't earn you a lot of money. You'll need to play well just to have enough to cover the basic expenses such as food and your bills."

47. SimDay
Written on Friday 6 June 2003 at 00:01 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week's SimDay isn't much, which we're getting used to by now. Basically it's one link, but since that's not a lot at all, they added another link to GameSpot celebrating that Superstar made the #1 spot in the sales - as if that's such big news. The other link is to an article which contains an interview with Will Wright. Here's a quote from what Will has to say about The Sims Online:
"The whole point of it is that we need to give players control of the world. We're putting in a lot of community structures now where they can form larger organizations. And these social structures will evolve into governance. But the governance has to be evolved from the ground up, not from the top down. We can't just go in and say: 'Here's your government.' We need them every week to tell us: 'Now we need this. Now we need to vote.'"
The whole interview also discusses The Sims 2 and The Sims GBA. You can read it right here.

48. New Poll
Written on Thursday 5 June 2003 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last week we asked you which old games from Maxis you've played (or are still playing). You all voted a lot, and the results are in. The most votes were for SimCity Classic: 155 people of those who voted (266 people) picked that. Second is SimTower, which got 90 votes. Third game is SimFarm (71 votes), followed by SimAnd (66 votes), SimCopter (54 votes) and SimLife (45 votes). 75 of you said they played none of those games. This week, there's another new poll: we want to know how many stars your biggest star has. If you have any Sims in the Fame career (and you have Superstar) anyway. Let us know, you can vote on the right or on this page.

49. ActionTrip reviews Superstar
Written on Wednesday 4 June 2003 at 00:28 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Another review of Superstar has appeared. Although there aren't as many as we've seen with other expansion packs (yet), they're still popping in every now and then. Here's a small bit of this new review at ActionTrip:
"Many may ask why there are so many Sims expansions, and why does Maxis keep producing them. The best answer would be something along the lines of: "They want more easy money", but regardless of that, I have to say that Superstar brings enough novelties into the serial to make the game fresh, interesting and likable both to serious fans and casual players alike. Apart from the new gadgets with which you can equip your humble abode, (exclusive plasma TVs and satellite dishes, etc.), now you can take some time to enjoy things like a professional massage, bathing in mud (yuck!) saunas, etc. you can also install the overly expensive Oxygen Bar for additional relaxation and impressing your neighbors and friends - vanity is a funny thing."
They also mention the scrolling which is 'jerky', and the outdated graphics and sounds. With a 77 out of 100 it's still pretty good. You can find the review here. For more links to reviews, click here.

50. SimDay Report: One new staircase
Written on Thursday 29 May 2003 at 04:02 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week Maxis has provided us with a nice new download: the "12 Steps in Stone" staircase, made of (drumroll please): stone. It has a nice curve in it, and it works with every expansion pack including Superstar (unlike most downloads at the official site, including the ones not included with Superstar). It's a 864 Kb download, and you can get it from Get Cool Stuff. Besides that there are some links to reviews of Superstar, including 3 new ones at GameBiz, GameNikki and Video Game City. You can read more about those in our review index. That's it again for this week's SimDay.
