It's been a
while since the first patch for Seasons was released. Recently the second patch has been released, pulled back and re-released again at the
official site. The first release of this second patch reintroduced the crying babies bug, but that has been fixed and the fixed version has been out since last week Monday. The list of fixes is long, so here are just some highlights of the new fixes:
- Sims will no longer pop out of the pool to recognize that it's raining.
- Drinking Orangeade will now add random badge points correctly.
- In Education Career Level 4, Sim will now actually lose 475 Simoleans as the UI states, and not get demoted.
- In Education level 7, Sims will no longer lose all their Simoleans and get demoted, but rather lose the amount shown in the UI as expected.
- Players will now be warned before the Social Worker takes away children for temperature neglect.
- Inventory will now update visually when using "undo" after inventory is empty.
- Seasonal Progression from home lot will now properly transfer to owned community lots.
- Drinking Orangeade without Open for Business installed will no longer display an incorrect skill badge.
- Sims will no longer spontaneously combust so easily (hot tubs, exercise machines, etc.).
- Sims will now much more rarely route through swimming pools when trying to reach locations.
- Snow saved on Community Lots will now melt properly.
- Sims will no longer take repeated baths or showers when cold.
- Vampires will now not get out of their coffin in the daytime to watch weather.
- Ottomas twins' father data is now correct.
- Sims will no longer die as easily by being struck by lightning.
- Visiting "Townie" Sims will not die as often when struck by lightning.
- Sims will be smarter about seeking out the shortest path to take to player-directed locations.
- "It's Raining" interactions will not continue to occur after a Sim has seen the weather several times.
- Teens who happen to age to an adult at the top of Music Career Track on a work day will no longer 'miss work' and get negative job performance.
- Arch doorways will now trigger Sims to change to Outerwear during winter.
- Children will no longer levitate when they watch a birth.
For the total that means there are 44 new fixes, along with the 3 earlier fixes. Not all of them will properly affect on existing saved games, and thus replacing an affected object, family, lot or neighborhood that still does not work after installing the patch may be necessary. The patch weighs around 47 Mb, and can be downloaded from the
Seasons patch page. Of course earlier
updates for previously released Sims games are also still available, and those patches may need to be applied for the correct behaviour of your Sims game as well.

You've already seen the
announcement of Bon Voyage here earlier. As long as the official press release is still not out, which we expect will be sometime next month, information about the sixth expansion pack is still scarce though. The pack will, according to the
official UK site have three destinations to go to, each with its own landscapes and residents. Sims can go on tours and buy or find unique items. Of course there will be new accomodations to stay at during the holiday for your Sims. The locations include a tropical island, a mountaintop as well as a Far East style. Your Sims can learn new interactions while away from home as well, which they in turn can take home and teach to friends. The three screenshots that have been revealed until now are available to watch below - just click the thumbnails for bigger versions.

168. The Sims a Rewarding Game

Three weeks ago
GameDaily Biz ran a feature about new developments in the game industry. More and more new games are fun, rewarding experiences that don't punish the player for their actions. RollerCoaster Tycoon started this trend a couple of years ago, followed by The Sims and many other games. Rather than turning to violence, interactivity is a different form of art that attracts many players. That instead of punishment, where it's "Game Over" if you don't perform well enough. Also, many games are too difficult to complete, and start collecting dust after a player isn't able to get past a certain point. It's changing though, and much like the Sims games are starting to become more rewarding - or at least less punishing. Is The Sims setting an unexpected example to the games industry? Read the
editorial to find Chris Taylor's (Creative Director, CEO of Gas Powered Games) findings on this matter.
169. The Sims - Coming to a movie theatre near you

According to
Variety Magazine
, 20th Century Fox has acquired the feature rights to "The Sims" and has already begun work on this live-action movie project where a traditional take is being made on the theme of ultimate power that we players interactively wield.
As Lara Croft can make the transition to the big screen in the form of Lara Croft, I just wonder who will play the part of Mortimer Goth or whether this movie will just be using the title of our beloved game and there not a single thing that we can relate to.
The whole story can be found
right here.

product page you can create your sim and select the colour of your bowling ball. You have to try to improve your reputation, but as you do so the difficulty of the game will also increase. The game features three ways to play: Classic, Spare-O-Thon and Strike-O-Thon. The press release is not available to the general public, but as service to you, you can just read on to read EA's announcement. The few screenshots that are available can be seen below.
