791. New poll
Written on Thursday 17 October 2002 at 02:49 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
As you might've read, Serena has left the Sim Brother house. That means it's time for a new poll again. This week: Will you participate in the TSO play test? As you all probably know, there's a play test so you can play The Sims Online even before it's out. Now we want to know if you're already playing it, if you're going to play it or if you won't. Also, we want to know how you joined or why you're not going to. Tell us by voting on the right or on this page. Your vote counts!

792. Some TSO Updates
Written on Wednesday 16 October 2002 at 00:17 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
A few updates about The Sims Online from Amazon. This game will be released at 18 November 2002 in the US. As we can see at Amazon.co.uk, it appears to be released nearly a month later at 13 December 2002. The same probably goes for the rest of Europe. Also, there will be a 'Game Card' box, sold for $29,99, which gives you some play time for The Sims Online (I expect that to be 2 or 3 months). There will also be a so-called Charter Edition for an additional $25 over the 'regular' version of the game. The difference is that it comes with some extras. First of all, you get 2 extra months of play time over the regular package which has just 1 month play time. You'll also get a 'Charter Member Certificate' to 'show off your special status'. Furthermore there's a TSO Soundtrack with the music from the game on it, and you'll get a full colour manual instead of the standard grey one. Two other items are an interactive "Be Somebody Else" Sim Magnet, and a twisty Sim key chain with which you can Mix and Match Sims on the go. If you want to pre-order one of the packages, visit Amazon US (US Only - TSO, Gamecard and Charter Edition), EBGames (Partially US Only - TSO (with or without play test), Gamecard, Charter Edition and the TSO Prima Strategy Guide) or Amazon UK (UK and Europe Only - just The Sims Online). Again, note that the game is still in development and will be released in a month in the US, and another month later in the UK and (probably) Europe. The play test is currently not available outside the US (unless you can get someone to mail-forward the cds), but EA Europe has some 'silvers' that they plan to make available soon. As soon as details follow on that, we will tell you. Thanks to our Sumit for the details on the Charter Edition and Andy for the Europe Play Test info (and also passing on the charter details to me), and SimGateway for the tip from Amazon.

793. The Neighborhood Handler & Unleashed
Written on Thursday 10 October 2002 at 20:36 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
If you visit us regularly, you might know that I've been down with RSI (a mouse-arm) for a few weeks. I'm glad to say that things are getting better again, and I can do some work again. However, there was still quite some work to be done on TNHH and other things. That means there's some work piled up, so I'll be staying a bit in the background for another while to catch up. Matthew will be keeping you updated with the latest news most of the time. Now about my planning for The Neighborhood Handler. As said, I was working on a version that would be compatible with the new Unleashed expansion pack. As it got delayed, I thought I'd still want to release it as soon as possible - or at least something. There is still some work to be done on the program itself, but that should be finished within 2 weeks or so as I resumed the programming work today. I'll then post a simple version of the program, without a big readme, manual whatsoever. In other words, just the program and nothing else. Another few weeks later, a full version with manual, installation and maybe some bugfixes etc. will be uploaded. As usual, the program will be released to the Yahoo! Group first.

794. SimDay: Lots of links and some other things...
Written on Thursday 10 October 2002 at 20:26 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Quite a big SimDay this week, although most of it are just links to reviews of Unleashed or The Sims Deluxe. One that isn't in our Unleashed review index yet is this one from Computer Simulation Games. 2 other reviews are from the Gamer's Temple, from both Unleashed and Deluxe. To end the list, TSO has been featured at SeattlePi.com. To see a list of several reviews of Unleashed go here, for Deluxe click here. Furthermore, part 2 of the Unleashed Pet Skins has been made available to registered users. It's not a real big download (468 Kb), so just get it by following this link. Also the Exchange has been reopened to international users so you can download even more. There's a new warning message when downloading, so make sure you read that. Finally, an Unleashed FAQ has been uploaded at the official site which answers questions from rezoning to getting rid of unwanted animals. The FAQ can be found here. That's all for this week, from the official site.

795. More New Reviews!
Written on Friday 4 October 2002 at 14:46 by Matthew - 0 comments.
Four new reviews so far today. Of course, you could check the full list (with quotes and scores) over at the Unleashed or Deluxe review indexes. However, for those of you who just want the links, here's a little list of the reviews spotted so far today! More reviews possibly on the way later.

    798. SimDay - Unleashed Lot Exchange Launched!
Written on Friday 27 September 2002 at 15:57 by Matthew - 0 comments.
The other main thing added today (or should that be late yesterday?) to the official site was the lot exchange feature for the Unleashed expansion pack. Again, not much use for us Europeans right now, but at least we can take heart in currently being in the lead in the Ryder Cup, eh? :) Besides, not too much longer to go till we get it. Here's the blurb on it from the website:
'The new Unleashed lot exchange Is open for business! Want to add a cafe or grocery store to your neighborhood? Search the Unleashed Neighborhood Exchange for the latest in user-created neighborhood lots.'
If you wish to take a look around, then use this link to go right over there. Oh, and the fourth and final thing added as part of SimDay was a transcript from a recent SimCity 4 chat. Not entire relevant, but for the sake of completeness click here to read it. Well, that's certainly one of the most packed SimDays I can remember. Keep it up Maxis!

    799. Get well soon, ChEeTaH
Written on Thursday 26 September 2002 at 01:39 by Andy - 7 comments.
Our hardworking webmaster has been working too hard and is out of action with RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) in his right arm. He will hopefully be back in action in a week or so when his arm has been properly rested.

ChEeTaH has asked me to apologise for those of you who are eagerly awaiting TNHH v4, the latest version of his excellent neighborhood handling program. This will be made available when he has recovered.

In the meantime, the rest of the staff and I hope to keep you informed of the latest goings-on in the Sims Community and keep you stocked with plenty of new downloads for your virtual people.

Get well soon, mate. We miss you.

    800. The Sims Deluxe - Reviewed
Written on Thursday 26 September 2002 at 01:34 by Matthew - 0 comments.
Scouring the internet for news late on a Wednesday, guess what I found? Only the first review of The Sims Deluxe! Well, maybe. The oddly named Gamenikki has a review of the new version of The Sims, and they actually rate it fairly highly. It scores nine out ten. However, they do have some views not a million miles away from those expressed on this very site:
'If you DONT own The Sims already, then this is a must-purchase. If you own just the original game, then I would still recommend the package because of the expansion pack, extras and a $10 rebate if you own the original. This would have the expansion pack and additional content (of which there is a nice amount) priced at a reasonable $25 or so. For gamers who own The Sims and Livin Large already, there is really no compelling reason to pay top dollar for essentially The Sims Creator, lots of new outfits and a few new objects. Yes, The Sims Deluxe Edition reeks of cash-in, but like the Malibu Stacy with just a new hat, you know youll buy it anyways.'
The full review is located here.
