141. New Poll
Written on Thursday 9 September 2004 at 02:00 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Last week we asked you a question about the Urbz. And it's true, close to 60% of our visitors isn't even interested in the game at all. The Sims 2 is obviously taking away all the focus. Nevertheless, 40% voted on one of the areas, with Diamond Heights being the most popular (11%). Third in the list is all of them sounding equally great (7%). 125th Street and Kicktail Park ended up with just over 4% each, 15 of the 350 votes, and are on a tied fourth place. Next in the list are Cozmo Street, Neon East, South Side Bridge, Central Station, Gasoline Row and finally the Foundry. For the exact results and amount of votes for each option, see the results page in our archive.

With just a few days to the release of the Sims 2 now, the reviews are appearing all over the place at a very high rate. You'll have noticed all the news recently about the biggest video game sequel ever. Are you still reading every letter of all the news posts and articles, or do you just skip through the most important news? Or don't you follow the game at all? Let us know and vote on the right, or at the latest poll page.

142. Sims 2 News
Written on Wednesday 8 September 2004 at 00:43 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Besides the news earlier today (review update, FAQ and first cheat, a Video and Website screenshots and Release date confusion), there's some more news. First of all, The Sims 2 is one of the games in the "Games for Windows" list. Microsoft has launched the Game Advisor which will check your system to make sure you meet the minimum system requirements. Internet Explorer 6 required. Thanks to SP Zone for the find.

Furthermore, the Spanish fansite Sims Express has posted a few scans from magazines recently. The first 3 are from the same magazine (Micromanía), the last is a separate one, from "Zone 01". Although the text is in Spanish, those who aren't fluent in that can still watch the pictures, even though the quality isn't great. Click the thumbnails below to see larger versions of the scans, or visit Sims Express for the full size ones (the ones posted here have been scaled down to save bandwidth).

143. Sims 2 Video, Website Screenshots
Written on Tuesday 7 September 2004 at 21:06 by ChEeTaH - 2 comments.
The official Norwegian Sims 2 site has revealed a few pictures of the upcoming Sims 2 website. It's unsure whether they're from the European sites, mostly in a similar style, or the American one - or both. It does show some resemblance with the exchange mockup Lucy Bradshaw sent a few weeks ago. As part of the new graphics is also in Norwegian, it's likely to be used at least for European sites. Click the thumbnails below to see the full size screenshots.

Also, a new Japanese trailer has been posted by the official Japanese site. It's from EA, and two Japanese guys and a girl show you the game. Of course in-game material is also shown. It weighs 36 Mb for the High Quality version, or 20 Mb for the Low Quality one. With thanks to SimsZone for these links.

Spanish fansite The Sims Express has found a new clip, in which you can see Will Wright play the sequel to the best-selling PC game ever, the Sims 2. It's a bit longer than 90 seconds, and completely in Spanish. The video can be viewed from this page at antena3, where you can also see a few pictures with Wright on them.

145. Sims 2 News
Written on Sunday 5 September 2004 at 01:02 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
There's a bit of Sims 2 news again today, as almost every day since the game went gold. In today's issue: a hands-on preview, videos, a bit about the website, and an interview with Will Wright. The preview is from IGN. After their feature series of SimIGN, they now have a full 3-page preview. It's mostly about the personality - especially the difference in it - of the Sims in the sequel. Aging and DNA are also told about, and of course some screenshots are included. There's also a video, made with the in-game tools to record, and edited with the Windows Movie Maker. Download the "SimIGN in Action" video from the Videos page, or just read the hands-on preview for more.

146. Sims 2 Articles
Written on Thursday 2 September 2004 at 02:06 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A few new Sims 2 articles have been posted again. The first one is a hands-on preview of the Sims 2 from London, which GameSpot got to play at GameStars Live, which is being held from 1-5 September. GameSpot tells about the Burb family: John, Jennifer and daughter Lucy. The aspirations, and especially the life score, is being highligted in the Hands-on Preview. Furthermore, there's an article which is about games in a more general manner, but it also mentions The Sims:
"College professors and other high profile scholars are paying more and more attention to video games. How is this attention affecting both the games industry and institutions of higher learning?"
You can read the entire feature at this page. Finally, SimIGN part 2 has been posted at IGN PC. This is the follow-up to the article posted earlier, and continues where they left off previously. There are still a few articles in the series to come. But for now, just read part 2.

147. Sims 2 Update
Written on Tuesday 31 August 2004 at 22:33 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
News about the Sims 2 keeps popping up every day, now it's almost released. There are just 17 days left until it's been released world-wide, which means a mass-load of reviews is bound to be written as well. For now it's still mostly previews though, of which one comes from IGN. The two-page article tells about the first week of Dan, Steve, Tom, Tal, and Jimmy living together in a house in StrangeTown. It's the first of a series of articles, which gives you an insight of what can be done with the Sims 2, without just listing the features. Interested in seeing (and reading) what a mess they made of it? Then read the article, or just watch the screenshots. Talking about screenshots, The Sims 2 Resource has posted 11 new screenshots of the game in their gallery for your viewing pleasure. If that's not enough and you want your computer to show the Sims 2 even when you're away from it from a chosen amount of minutes, then download this Japanese Screensaver. Click the link and then OK to download it (1.5 Mb), and then install it.

Last but not least, there's a show coming up on MTV in September, called Video Mods. It airs every other Saturday from 18 September onwards, at 6.30 pm PST (which is 9.30 pm EST) on MTV2. You will be able to listen to music while watching video games. And that's where the Sims 2 comes in; it's featured in a music video called "Stacey's Mom" by the Fountains of Wayne. Read more about that on the show's about page.

148. SimDay: New Video
Written on Thursday 26 August 2004 at 16:35 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
This week's SimDay comes with nothing but a video. Links to the Gamespy Feature and the news about the Sims gone gold have been posted earlier this week. The video is a preview of the Sims 2 DVD edition, of which a worldwide release still hasn't been confirmed by EA. Nevertheless there's the option to pre-order it in the US, and of course that means there has to be some PR for it. In 90 seconds some bits of the interviews with several Maxis icons are shown. Tim LeTourneau also explains how the blooper video was created. Apparantly they just tried to make Sims juggle with objects in the environment, and they happened to (ab)use a baby for it. The video also contains a few snippets of previously unseen in-game material. You can view and download it from the official videos page.

149. More Sims 2 Stuff
Written on Wednesday 25 August 2004 at 01:54 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
More the Sims 2 stuff has appeared today. First of all there's a Portuguese preview with screenshots at G4mers. The review is split up over 8 pages, and although I don't understand it, they must be positive as they rate the game a 91/100. Their screenshot gallery contains 22 pages of screenshots - take a look if you haven't seen enough yet. Besides that, the Aspiration trailer (see this news) has been posted again. This time it's in higher quality though, and the sides have been cut off. The actual video isn't much different from before. The new trailer comes in two slightly different versions (with just a different beginning and ending). Click here for an 18.6 Mb version, or right here for the 14.8 Mb one. Thanks to Piotr and SimsZone for finding the links.

150. GameSpy Sims 2 Feature - Sims 2 Gone Gold? [Update]
Written on Monday 23 August 2004 at 17:38 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
With less than 4 weeks to the release, the hype of the Sims 2 has really broken loose. (P)reviews, screenshots and media are popping up all over the place - on both the internet and written press - and GameSpy is no exception. They've posted two articles about the game - a Preview and a humour story - so far, but that's not all. There will be an interview with Will Wright tomorrow as well. For all the links see their Sims 2 landing site.

The preview is pretty in-depth with its 5 pages, and it does contain some spoilers as well. The editor is very impressed with the immense level of detail in the game. Imagine some Sim has left the cordless phone lying around somewhere, while another one wants to make a call. They'd press a button on the base station, and walk to the room where the phone was making a noise. Other samples of detail are that you can actually see the Sims play their chess (they move their pieces) or video games. The cutscenes, highlighting special moments in your Sims' lives, bring you really up close and personal with your Sims as well:
"Special moments in your Sims' lives are highlighted with (for lack of a better term) "cutscenes," where the camera swivels around to capture the magic - such as in my childbirth example above. All of these moments are appropriately big and bold, as if you're seeing it through your Sims' eyes. When one of my teenage Sims had her first kiss, she floated up in the air surrounded by hearts and twittering birds."
Furthermore the preview mentions "Woo Hoo" and fights. You should read the entire preview for more. In the other article, called "Spy Eyes for the Sim Guys", we meet Eugene Marfit, a "cheese-guzzling cellulisaurous" (or just a Sim in bad shape). Read and see how his life is changed by GameSpy, in the complete article.

[Update 15:45] The GameSpy homepage has a mention saying that the game has apparantly gone gold. This has not been officially confirmed yet, but of course we'll keep you updated.
