Mods are something that will modify the game. For example, modthesims.com has a "Pay the bills at the postbox" and "Daily gardeners". You can download them and put them in your game. Some of these might conflict against each other and so make your game unplayable. Look in you Documents/EA Games/Sims 2/Downloads folder and delete anything you have downloaded recently that could be making the bright red walls appear.

I have the bright red walls too! It just happened when I installed sims 2 pets. Even if I delete all my custom content they are still there. I've learnt to put up with it but it is quite annoying. My friend's sims 2 pets doesn't do that which is very unfair >:(

Look in the custom content box at the start to see which things are messing up your game. Locate and destroy them! Lol. Things like clothes and make-up should be ok but stuff like custom careers/hacks/custom meals will probably be the cause of the flashing walls. I'm just wiping off my mods now I hope it works! :D
