70. Will Wright leaves EA for Stupid Fun Club

Will Wright and EA today announced that Wright, creator of SimCity, The Sims and Spore, will be leaving EA. He will focus on his Stupid Fun Club. Originally a group of hobbyists (Will and some of his friends), the Stupid Fun Club had fun with robots and toys, even being featured on NBC with a Candid Camera short about a sad robot. Now Wright will continue the club as a professional organization. The club will develop new intellectual properties for video games, movies, television, the Internet and toys.
Wright and EA have not completely left each other though: both parties own an equal percentage of the club. Ideas developed by the Stupid Fun Club can be developed into games by EA, which probably means we haven't seen the last of Will Wright in the games world yet. Lucy Bradshaw and her team at Maxis will continue to develop and expand Spore, while the Sims Division at EA will continue to create Sims games as they have done for the past couple of years - already without Wright. According to an MTV Article no game projects are currently in development by the Stupid Fun Club. Check out the Stupid Fun Club Website for more information about the "think tank".
71. Easter Bunny Stuff Pack Announced [Update]

Today EA announced a new stuff pack: Easter Bunny Stuff. Just over a week before easter, EA has announced this latest stuff pack for the Sims 2. With the delay for the Sims 3, fans complained a lot about the long time between the last pack for the Sims 2 (Mansion and Garden Stuff) and the release of the sequel. Tim LeTourneau, producer of The Sims 2 and the first couple of expansion packs, has taken some time off MySims for the Easter Bunny Stuff intermission. In the press release he is quoted: "Fans are dying to get more content for their Sims 2 games from EA. Easter Bunny Stuff will be a great addition to fill just that need, with new characters and special foods." The pack is said to contain roughly 60 items, among which are Easter Bunny clothes and new breakfast meals: boiled egg, traditional eggs benedict and chocolate easter egg. Furthermore you can find lots of colorful decorational items in the pack, combined with a new "Hide and Seek Easter Egg" interaction. Of course, Mr. Easter Bunny himself will also make his appearance. Time to decide is short: the pack will be in stores next week, right in time for Easter.
[Update] Of course all of the above is fake, an April Fools joke by us,
SimsNetwork,
DMS2C,
SimParool and
Sims3Nieuws. Don't rush to the stores next week to get this pack, you won't find it. And the screenshots below? Staged, thanks to Sims unclogging toilets in
Bunny suits. We hope you had a laugh, even a
Maxoid fell for it!

73. TS3: Disc-based copy protection, no SecuROM

EA has sent out a message today saying that The Sims 3 will use disc-based copy protection, just like the Sims 2. Online validation will not be included. Also, in
a topic on the BBS MaxoidHydra confirms the disc-based version of SecuROM will also not be on the Sims 3. The copy protection that is used, is not specified by EA, but it may be possible that EA steps back to SafeDisc, which was used with the Sims 2 until Seasons. Besides that, a serial number will, as usual, be required to install the game. Whether this new policy will be applied company-wide, over all new EA games, is also unsure. Read on for
Rod Humble's letter. Please note that the letter does not say no form of copy protection (DRM) will be used at all.

Fan site
SimOperations has found the official Sims 3 soundtrack on
EA Trax. You can
listen to the 15 tracks online. With some tricks, you can get the
playlist XML file, which shows the locations of the original MP3 files - which you can download and play on any other player which supports MP3 (hint: view the source of the playlist file, if you don't immediately see the URLs). The playlist also shows there should be 16 tracks, but number 9 seems to be missing. It may be revealed with the release of the Sims 3. The music was composed by Steve Jablonsky.
75. 2 New Apartments

I uploaded two of my apartments yesterday, the
Soma Lofts and
Sunnyvale Apts. Both required some custom walls and floors. It was brought to my attention by several people that not all the necessary walls and floors were included. That's the main reason I'm posting this on the front page! That, and to bring these items to your attention. Because I would love to hear what you think about these apartments. If you like them, I am willing to upload my items more often here on The Sims Zone.

77. The Sims 3: 2 June 2009

According to our affiliates at
WorldSims The Sims 3 has been delayed until June 2 of this year. Apparently a press release went up on the official Sims 3 site earlier today, which got removed again shortly thereafter. More definite news is expected in about an hour (2PM PST), during EA's quarterly conference call, but it looks like 2 June will in fact be the date. The information seems genuine. Simultaneous to the PC release, the Sims 3 will be out on Mac, iPhone/iPod Touch and mobile. Note that 2 June is the US release date: in other countries the game may be released a few days later. We expect the UK and most of Europe to get the game at Friday 5 June.
[Update] It's official, the press release is out.
Read more here. During the conference call EA CEO John Riccitiello remarked that in the last quarter, EA's titles did not perform as expected. As stated in the press release, EA wants to raise more awareness for The Sims 3 in the extra development time. EA will launch a worldwide marketing campaign that The Sims 3 deserves, according to Riccitiello. This falls in place with a new strategy to invest more time and effort to be really innovative with the marketing. The move of The Sims 3 (and other EA titles) means that instead of fiscal year '09, the game will be out in fiscal year '10 (April 2009 to March 2010). EA does believe that The Sims 3 is the most important title of fiscal 2010.
Along with this news, EA has published three new screenshots and a trailer, as well as a new box shot for the regular and the collector's edition. The first box shows that the PC and Mac versions will both be on the same disc. Click the thumbnails below for large versions.
78. The Sims 3 Release - Delays Possible

For those expecting the newest version of The Sims to be here in under a month, it seems to be that this will not be the case. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is how things look.
EA has issued the following statement.
"We are evaluating the launch window. The game looks great and in the near future we'll have more information."
How late it is going to be delayed is anyone's guess at this time and at TSZ, we will be keeping track and informing you of what is going on. The general concensus appears to be that EA/Maxis would rather delay the release of TS3 in order to iron things out as well as they can rather than release a product that will have a lot of disappointed gamers up in arms over bugs and other issues.

79. Replacing Bigfoot

Ever thought that Bigfoot from "Bon Voyage" just looked like a hairy human in need of a shave and less like the one you've seen either in in the National Enquirer or meeting the Hendersons in either the movie or in his own TV show?
If so, then you can now replace him with this less human and more weird creature with a more defined face. Using various sources, this is how Realsurge has reworked this creature and provides this replacement for our enjoyment.
You can download it from here!
