11. Sims 2 Movies
Written on Wednesday 1 September 2004 at 02:01 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
A couple of new movies of the Sims 2 have been posted at 2 sites. The first one is from our affiliate WorldSims. It briefly goes through the history of the Sims 2 since the announcement. It's about a minute long, and shows the major dates (The Announcement, E3 2003/2004, the Sims 2 University and going gold). Between that you see a couple of screenshots. See its newspost for the download. Furthermore, GameSpot has posted a bunch of blooper movies from the Sims 2. Go to the Media Page and check out Official movies 7-10. They show smoking Sims, twisting feet and hands, Simmy insects, kids on a bed, and finally Sims dancing to wherever you send them to. So if you want to have a laugh, check out the clips. Note that the things shown in the movies will be fixed in the final version of the game.

12. First Sims 2 Commercial
Written on Sunday 22 August 2004 at 21:30 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
The first Sims 2 commercial has been spotted on VH1 in the USA. JDB5001 in the TSR Forums has recorded the clip and put it online. It's 810 Kb and in Windows Media format. It's been mirrored on our servers: click here to download it (please do not leech/hot-link!). It isn't in the same style as the magazine ads seen before, but it shows mostly in-game material instead. The entire clip is 28 seconds. Enjoy it.

13. More from EA's Hot Summer Nights [Update]
Written on Saturday 17 July 2004 at 02:13 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Information from EA's Hot Summer Nights event (previously known as Camp EA) is popping up all over the internet. First of all there's a Sims 2 gameplay movie posted on both IGN and GameSpot. It shows stuff like a carpool (either a cool sports car or the helicopter), but also some romance, cooking, Don growing up, a fire (one of the first times that's visible), a Sim being abducted, and even a beggar and a teenager being brought home by the cops. There's a lot more in it too, and a must-see. GameSpot has also posted a 3 minute developer interview with Lucy Bradshaw who talks about the game. You see snippets of the other video during the interview too. She tells the game went Alpha (feature-complete) shortly after the E3, the event at which Maxis focussed on the Aspirations. After that they started really polishing the game, adding content and neighborhoods, etc. She also tells more about what has been mentioned in the previews again. As for the Movie making, she repeats movies will be saved as uncompressed AVI files, which will get big very quickly. She also mentioned the DVD version again. You can download it from this page.

As for the URBZ, one more preview has popped up at GameInformer.com. It doesn't mention much news when you've read the other previews though. Nevertheless, for those who want to see it, just read the GameInformer Preview. More interesting are the new gameplay movie and developer interview with Executive Producer Sinjin Bain (this time about the console version). Most noticable is probably the new logo on the right bottom corner in the gameplay movie. It's unsure whether this will be the new logo of the game or not. The gameplay movie shows a lot of fighting and urban life. The interview shows, just like the Sims 2 one, clips from the gameplay movie. Sinjin also repeats a lot of what's been said in the previews. For example, he mentions the different cultures and how your clothing affects the rep in a district. Jobs will also unlock the power social interactions. For that, and some urban rooftop Golf, dancing in front of a musical truck, and a lot more in-game material, check out the GameSpot Media Page.

[Update 17 July 1:55] A bunch of other gameplay movies of The Sims 2 have appeared. Besides the movie mentioned above, there are 8 new short movies, all showing Sims 2 gameplay. The movies are titled "The Mothership returns", "Tubbing it", "Picking fights", "Starting to lose it", "Alien loving", "Going to work", "Meet the neighbors" and "Stargazing, course-running". They all come in low quality Windows Media (around 3Mb each) and QuickTime (about 6 Mb each), and in high quality Quicktime (about 15-17Mb each) format. The QuickTime formats are available to Insiders only though. You can view them from this page (click the "Next" button for the last set and older videos).

14. New Sims 2 Movie
Written on Saturday 19 June 2004 at 06:02 by ChEeTaH - 1 comment.
We've received Lucy's weekly e-mail again, and this time it contains something different than the usual batch of screenshots. There's a new movie of Don, the Romantic Sim. He's the star in this new movie, which tells his love life in one minute. Some things you can see for the first time in it is a sim (Don) growing up from teen to adult. Also noticable is the "Created with The Sims 2 Movie Maker", which might mean there will be a tool to edit your home-videos with. You can download the movie using one of the links below. To webmasters: please do not hot-link to these files directly, but copy them to your own servers instead if you want to have them on your own website. Now off to download the clip: You need QuickTime to view it. Read more for Lucy's e-mail in its completeness, in which she talks about the end of spring, and romance for your Sims.

15. New Sims 2 Video
Written on Wednesday 12 May 2004 at 17:30 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
IGN has posted a new video again. For some people it may not be entirely new, as it contains mostly in-game footage which was also included in the Lucy Bradshaw interview. This time however, it's also available to those who aren't an IGN insider. It comes in 3 ways: Windows Media Format (15.8 Mb) and QuickTime format (21.1 Mb), both in a 320x240 resolution, or a high resolution (640x480) QuickTime video (53.2 Mb). Only the Windows Media file is available to non-subscribers, IGN Insiders can also download the high quality versions. Depending in your format of choice, you need either Windows Media Player 9 or QuickTime to see it. It has several short in-game clips in which you can see actual Sims in action. You can download it from IGN's video page.

16. Lucy Bradshaw Video Interview [Update]
Written on Tuesday 11 May 2004 at 04:19 by ChEeTaH - 4 comments.
As she already told us, Lucy has been interviewed by IGN. The interview is now available for IGN Insiders. It's a huge download, 300 Mb in Quicktime or almost 150 Mb in Windows Media format, but I've downloaded it. It doesn't give much real new information about the game, though the in-game clips from it are nice to see. You can see some snapshots I've created at the end of this article (in the Read more bit). Most interesting from those videos is that it looks like Maxis has included some Superstar elements, as we can see a lady Sim on the red carpet, with body guards and flashing cameras around her. Other images show the building of the homes, but also Sims jumping on couches, kissing and wrestling. We can also see the creation of a Sim (in-game) for a bit. For more information about what Lucy and Steve Butts, Editor-in-Chief of IGN, had to discuss in those 20 minutes, read on... It's a nice summary of what The Sims 2 is all about again.

[Update 16:20] Some more pictures from the movie, not taken by me, can be found at Snooty Sims. They're posted along with some other shots from recently published movies. You can see them right here.

17. New Sims 2 Video
Written on Thursday 16 October 2003 at 22:25 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
Fansite WorldSims has posted a new video of The Sims 2. However, it doesn't seem to be too interesting as it isn't more than a collection of screenshots put after each other like a slideshow, with some techno music in the background. There are 3 versions: one Low Resolution (3 Mb), High resolution (10 Mb) and "Ultra High Resolution" (112 Mb, and that's NOT a typo!). For most people the 10 Mb version should be good enough though, the "Ultra High" version looks sharper, but it takes a lot more space and time to download for a little bit more quality. If you want to see the screenshots in the quality as they were posted, search back in our news archive for all the mentions of Sims 2 screenshots and movies we've spotted. If you just want a quick overview of what The Sims 2 will look like without having to go to a ton of different sites, then this clip might be worth downloading. If you're interested, head over to WorldSims to download it.

18. The Sims 2 Diary #3
Written on Wednesday 24 September 2003 at 17:56 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
GameSpot has posted the third edition of the designer diary of The Sims 2. This time VP PC Development Lucy Bradshaw and Creative Director Charles London. They mainly talk about moods. They talk about how Sims now do not 'live in the moment', but you can see their emotions constantly. Examples are shown of a happy, a depressed, a shy and an outgoing Sim. This diary is somewhat special: it comes with a few clips. They also talk about "memories" of the Sims. Here's an example of how that works:
"[...] Not only will a sim remember if he or she was jilted by a lover, but another sim who witnesses the event will also remember it, and will be able to share it with their friends. After the breakup, the jilted sim might still be reeling from heartbreak. A friend who "heard it through the grapevine" can lessen the pain with a simple pat on the back. However, salt can also be poured on the sim's wound when he or she sees his or her old flame with a new love. It's this type of context that introduces surprises, crazy successes, and failures to the game--along with a dynamic new strategy."
You can read the whole article right here. Along with that, they've posted 4 short clips showing the moody Sims in motion. Those can be found at the media page. You need at least a (free) GameSpot Basic account to download the clips. Together (High-res QuickTime versions) they're about 5 Mb, with more than half of it taken up by the Shy animation (2.9 Mb). There are also MPEG versions, which can be played by most regular media players (so you don't need QuickTime). Although those are smaller and thus faster to download, the quality is poorer compared to the QuickTime versions.

19. New Sims 2 Clip [Update]
Written on Thursday 12 June 2003 at 03:03 by ChEeTaH - 7 comments.
EA has released another E3 trailer of The Sims 2. I've downloaded and watched it, and it's quite nice. First it shows a Sim in creation (not the actual interface though), then you see that guy with a girl on a couch, in their (messy) home. When trying to cuddle, the girl pushes him away. A few years later, so it seems, the same happend. But the third time, they get on to something. They marry, and the next scene shows a pregnant woman, with already two kids playing around. Then there are more kids swinging around. Kids grow up, become teens, and have wild parties. Thank god for the parents they graduate and can be kicked out of the house. The kids marry, get children too, and the first 2 Sims have become geezers. The clip is 1 minute 45 seconds long. You can download it in two versions: High resolution (320x240 pixels, 12 Mb) or Low Resolution (128x96 pixels, 3 Mb). Click right here for the high resolution version, or click this link for the low resolution version (both from 3D Gamers).

[Update 15 June 2003, 1:45] EA has apparantly removed the file from their FTP servers. The links have been updated to go through 3D Gamers.

20. Sims 2 Preview
Written on Friday 16 May 2003 at 16:07 by ChEeTaH - 0 comments.
GameMarshal has been at the E3 watching The Sims 2 as well, and they got to see the movie - apparantly in extended form as they see a few things not seen in the GameSpot clip. Perhaps IGN Insiders are able to see everything, but I can't tell that for sure. As it's an official trailer, the whole thing will probably be made available as download by Maxis or EA themselves. Besides telling about watching the video, GameMarshal also went to talk with Charles London, creative director of Maxis. The main feature talked about is the DNA, which is quite life-like: "Dominant and recessive features such as eye or skin color are also decided based on the DNA of the parents and passed onto the baby". They also talk a bit about how much you can change the looks of your Sim. They also mention a thing that's new to us:
"The Sims 2 will include new animation styles, facial expression based on the situation along with mouth movements when Sims talk. There will be weekdays and weekends, and your Sims will establish a work schedule. So while mom or dad could be working on Saturday or Sunday, the kids will stay home since there is no school on the weekend."
Finally parents can take some days off without the danger of being sacked, and kids can stay at home to play with their friends, without being sent to military school. Nice indeed. You can check the whole preview out right here.
