OfB Details from Chat
There was a chat this thursday, and during the 40 minutes it lasted several Maxoids answered a lot of questions regarding Open for Business, the upcoming third expansion pack for the Sims 2. The chat has resulted in some new information being given. A list with the new (or more detailed than before) information from the chat is in the read more part of this post. Check the full log for all the questions and answers.

  • There are domed, conical and octagonal roofs.
  • You can transfer a business to another family member.
  • When a Sim dies, a business will automatically be transferred to a heir.
  • A Business reported can give you a good or bad review, depending on how he likes your business at his visit. This can really help or hurt your business.
  • Sims can purchase existing community lots, to turn them in a business.
  • Sims will leave their home lot to go to work if they work in a business (as employee).
  • Business perks are tied to a Sim, and not a business, so they're not transferred with the business. They can be "mentored" though.
  • Servo (the family robot) copies the personality of the Sim who initializes him/her. He/She will also have wants and fears.
  • Servo can also take care of children, like a nanny.
  • Servo has some specific needs, and can marry, woohoo, etc. too, but not reproduce.
  • Building a servo requires the gold robot talent badge.
  • Servo can be a tough one to kill, but it is possible. It recharges in the sunlight.
  • Partition walls work like a fence, but because they are of glass they can improve the looks of a room a lot.
  • You can have up to 8 employees.
  • If you have a employee promoted to manager, they can keep your business open even if the owner isn't on the lot - the owner just needs to check in using the phone. The owner still gets the money, but no customer loyalty or business rank.
  • Managers do become directly controllable, unlike regular employees.
  • One of the pies for a bakery has a special secret.
  • Sims can die on community lots due to the elevator, as long as the lot is owned by a Sim.
  • Woohooing in an elevator increases the chance of it plunging down.
  • The elevator takes up 2x2 tiles, but two tiles in front of it need to be free, so a Sim can enter.
  • All doors are lockable, except the Myne door from University. Gates are probably lockable too.
  • There's a new Mission furniture set.
  • Sentrybot, one of the robots, can go beserk and shock Sims.
  • Bluewater Village comes with 5 pre-made families, and there are two more in the bin.
  • There's a toymaking family that's ready to buy a business, a family with a furniture store, a woman that owns a flower shop, a family bakery and a rich tycoon that owns the club.
  • You can supposedly teach the pet brick a trick.
  • Sims can only be charged by the hour, or by them buying items - there's no set entry fee.
  • The more Sims spend in a business, the more simoleon signs appear on their shopping bags.
  • Clothing racks etc. have the usual options for selling items, but you can suggest things for Sims to buy.
  • Burglars can only steal from home businesses.
  • High charisma skills help a Sim getting a sales badge faster.
  • You can die because of the Rally Forth perk (see H-Mail)
  • New neighborhood decorations include windmills, a new flashy sign, some road signs, banners, confetti and planes.
  • Customers tend to dislike stores that catch fire.
  • Employees can quit if they think they're not getting a fair wage.
  • Pregnant women can go to community lots during almost their entire pregnancy now.
  • A Designer walkthrough with MaxoidHunter (Hunter Howe) will be published soon.
