No I think you can only go to thier weddings and to the hospital if they are seriously ill/pregnant!

u can also go downtown but not to work or to skool!

This is about The URBZ (according to the category this question is placed in), not The Sims (2).

And yes, in the URBZ you will be able to follow your Sims along to work. They can work at places like the Sushi Bar, the Chop Shop, or Bootleg Fireworks, Inc, and probably other places as well (but they haven't been announced yet).
