How can I purchase the items in the catalog?

I don't think you can get em straight from the catalogue. Everyday the different stores get different items. Try shopping online, they get cooler stuff than the other shops.

You don't, the catolouge is just to see what the shop sells.

and also displays the items that people give to you when you invite them to your house and they like it. it shows everything (except pets and vehicles) that you can own in the game.
