have you checked, that the file you want to use isn't a read only file?
I have sometimes had that problem, but after you uncheck that it works fine.

The problem should be fixed in version 0.4.0b. It was a problem which occured when creating too large FAR files.

I get an "out of memory" error when I fun the export option. I have plenty of mem in th eputer. Could too many downloads cause this?

Could be. Try making smaller lists by removing types to put in the list. I will see if I can make it more efficient for the next version, but I can't guarantee that...

Love this program It is a true life saver for those of us who are a little in the dark on file types and putting this here or there Not to mention those of us who LOVE to add new things. and would have to open and handle a LOT of files in the course of a day if not for the help you get from this program.I would not be able to add all the many goodies I have if not for the Add On Handler to help me get them added.
I totally reccomend this to everyone who likes adding goodies to their game.

I also had to ask where to save it to Iwas a real Newbie. That however was not an issue as ChEetah answered my question pretty fast and in simple language.


Thanks ChEetah for another great program.

I just recently attempted to download this program but everytime it gets to like 25% it quits. It shows the icon on my desktop but then it says it has an error and i need to re-download it. Ive tried like 3 or 4 times. What can i do?

thank you for the add-on handler! it's great. i'm terrible at downloading stuff, so this is great for me. anyone who downloads this will love it. i think i need to delete it off my hardrive, because i need to stop downloading stuff, or my game will crash. =)

@April: It might be a bit too busy on this site, so try again a few hours later and it might work then. Also make sure you have enough free disk space (you normally should have more than just the 2 Mb left though...).

i have a big problem. i can install adult skins and heads using the add-on handler, but whenever i install a child head, it doesn't show up in my game. it's installed under accessories. why is that happening, and why doesn't it show up?

You have to drag and drop the files to the window of the program. So start it first (through your start menu), and open the folder where you saved the downloads to (using My Computer or Explorer). Press and hold the mouse button on the files you want to install, move the mouse to the window of the Add-on Handler, and then release the mouse button. You can also use the "Click here" link at the top of the window to select the files.

Caitlin: That probably means it didn't recognise the files properly. It will not recognise .exe files - they often install automatically by double clicking them (ie running them). The Add-on Handler can currently work only with .zip files, directories, and 'loose' files. Make sure that any .zip files you use aren't broken.

It says it can't find the path of the Sims! I tried finding making it find it automaticly, then it won't find it so I had to find it manually. That still didn't work! I tried reinstalling the Sims and the Add-on Handler, and it still didn't work!

I just downloaded the program and filled it with files no problem. But when I try to install the files, I get this message: Access violation at address 0041F41E in module 'The add-on handler.exe' Read of address 010B72F0

I currently have no plans for a Sims 2 version - I simply don't have the time for it. Look here for instructions about how to install downloads in the Sims 2. For the Sims 1, see the included readme file or this thread.

@kayboo1124: Make sure a sims.exe file exists in the folder you select (C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims), that's what it checks for. Note that this program doesn't work with the Sims 2!

@Lori: are you perhaps trying to install too many files in one go? Install them in groups of less files, that might solve the access violation. Otherwise I'm not exactly sure what could be the problem.

I see lots of problems here with this program on the coments I may wait for cheetahto do the next version.

As mentioned in previous comments, this program is NOT for the Sims 2. Also, I unfortunately don't have time to really continue development on this version. If a new version is ever released it'll be posted here, but please don't expect one.

The biggest problem with this version seems to occur when installing a high number of downloads at once - something I've tried to solve but never managed to fix unfortunately. Installing smaller groups of files in one go seems to usually do the trick.

@Theresa: All downloads you installed before are automatically listed in the Neighborhood Handler, although some data (e.g. comments) won't be available for those files. If you want comments with those files, the only way to do it is to reinstall the files using the Add-on Handler.

i have installed and uninstalled teh sims on my computer quite a few times and i now want to reinstall it but i dont have the case which means no serial number and i downloaded this program and if i do not have it installed now can it still give me prior serial numbers and also wil it be able to set a path if u can help it would be very appreciated

HELP! I downloaded the addon handler and all the downloads went to the addon handler which made my sims\gamedata\userobjects folder be empty. I was trying to make more room on my pc. Then I downloaded sims transmogrifer (at www.lushcreations.com). With that, I was able to look a pics of the downloads. Then I delted them out of the addon handler file marked "IFFBackup" in my pc. Then I went in my game and saw that stuff I deleted was still in my game. So I went to the objects in the addon handler to delete the downloads there. But it does not work. It seems to freeze up. So I guess I'm confused and don't understand how or where the game finds (or reads) the downloads to use in the game. And if I delete the addon handler, will that delete the dowloads from my game? Do I have to take the downloads from the addon handler iffbackup file and move them back to the sims\gamedate\userobjects file? Sorry the explanation is long, please help if you can. THANKS!!!!!!!!

I have a quick question...I have Sims1 Mega Deluxe. Sometimes when I try to install objects I get a confirmation window saying "Missing Translation" . What does this mean? Should I check YES or NO?

Ok so i am pretty frustrated with how stupid i must be. I have tried everything to get my objects to show up. I have read every FAQ possible. The only things that are showing up are the walls and floors. no objects. please help. i even tried using this thing!!!

When I try to install any object, It reads the files but when it tries to install them, it goes up one notch then just freezes. It does this even when there's only one object so i know it can't be the amount of objects.

I tried downloading flowers from this site:

however, when i tried to use the FAR Objects tab, a message pops up saying that a file already exists. If i "skip" it, the file stays in the installed box, and 0 files are packed. However, if i click "overwrite," the program freezes while in the process of packing.

I tried to delete those installed files, but the program freezes.

Can you help, please?
