Patch for Pets (Mac)

Since the release of the Pets expansion pack for Mac, publisher Aspyr has found a few bugs and released a patch to fix them. It fixes an install issue with later expansion packs, as well as lot or neighborhood name changes not being saved properly. Graphically some colour issues with some objects are corrected, and performance should be improved as well. Finally the patch also solves the problem of user settings being reset to their defaults at the launch of the game. For the list of fixes as well as a download link check out the corresponding news post about the patch.

Seasons Coming to Mac

Although an official announcement has not yet been made, the product page for The Sims 2 Seasons for Mac has appeared on Aspyr's website. As expected the company will transform the Seasons expansion pack to make it work on the Mac like all previous expansion packs for the Sims 2. The expansion will not be different from the PC version, but will be an exact copy, just for a different platform. For more details check out the product page. We'll have the pack available for pre-order from our Mac shop as soon as possible.

Sims Visa Credit Card Coming

While so far it was only possible to pay for Sims games, in the future you will also be able to pay using the Sims. Four Sims 2 themed credit cards have been designed, and you can now vote for your favourite. Whichever is picked will be produced by Visa. Besides the looks there will also be "exciting rewards and offers" for the North American Sims fans. Go over to the credit card page to cast your vote for the best design.

Ford Mustang Download

Until now cars in the Sims have only been available to the happy owners of the Nightlife expansion pack. Recently that was changed, as EA released a Ford Mustang for download. Although at least one newer expansion than Nightlife is necessary in this case, any Sims fan with one of those packs can get the sports car into their game. For those without Nightlife but with Open For Business, Pets or Seasons there's a carkit download as well, which includes the driveways and such to make the car (only the Mustang!) work in the game. In the first version there was a bug with the headlights, but that's been fixed by now. If you previously downloaded the car and don't have Pets or Seasons, then you will need to do so again to solve the problem. It will be necessary to uninstall the first version before installing the new one though, as explained by MaxoidDramaLlama in a BBS post. To download the item head on over to the Ford Mustang page.

EA Music for TV, Film and More

After making its music available through iTunes music from EA games will in the future also be available for TV, films, commercials and other media products. Producers can license usage of the music for these media products. A library website has been created, on which you can find samples for the first 10 CDs that have been produced. Those 10 include a "The Sims: Jazz Lounge" CD with 12 full tracks and 30 second snippets from each of those songs. The music is only available to APM clients, which EA has partnered with. More details can be found in the press release and on the EA APM site.

"Bon Voyage" Next Expansion?

As you should expect, Seasons isn't the last expansion pack for the Sims 2. Nevertheless the topic for the sixth expansion has not yet been known until recently, when according to SnootySims BBS member ecaguimbalu found a PC release title for September at VideoEta.com. The site focuses mainly on DVDs and movies, so the reliability of the release date can be questioned as there are no details as to where the information comes from, presumably from the publisher (EA). The site claims the expansion will be called "Bon Voyage". Online shop Buy.com also has the game in their catalog for the price of an expansion pack and a release date in early September. Confirmation from EA or Maxis about the next expansion pack is still pending, but of course we'll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news.

Pets Coming for Wii

After last year's release of Pets for various platforms, including Nintendo's GameCube and DS already, the game is now also coming to the Wii. Expected in June, the game will be similar to the other console versions (PlayStation 2, GameCube and PSP) of the Sims 2 Pets. The only main difference will be that it's easier to control with the Wii controllers: you can just point and click to direct Sims, grab walls and furniture and place them around, all using the Nunchuck and the Wii remote. Information is available on the product page, where you can also find a slightly new trailer for the Wii version.

Spring Fever Community Showcase Results

Spring Fever March is over, and that means the results of the March community showcase at the official site are in. Out of hundreds of submissions EA picked 21, of which thirteen lots, six Sims, one pet and one story. There's no new showcase theme for April or May yet, but you can check out the March showcase results or previous showcases to find the featured items on the exchange.

QA Tester for EA Wanted

Maxis is looking for somebody to fill up a temporary position as QA (Quality Assurance) Game Tester for their studio in Redwood Shores, California. It's a temporary full time job, relocation to the San Francisco Bay Area is at your own costs. Whether the job regards the testing of specific Sims games is not said in the job description.

Lilly Allen Contest Result

A little while ago we reported about a karaoke contest in which you had to sing in Simlish to enter. The song was Lilly Allen's "Smile". After 110 entries the results have been announced, and NessaBop has won by receiving the most points. She will be invited over to EA's studios, receive 4 tickets to a Lilly Allen concert and a copy of the Sims 2 Seasons. You can listen to her entry at the contest page.

Art Contest Pictures and Review

MTV has visited the Sims in the Hands of Artists exhibition at the Chelsea Museum of Art in New York recently, and brought back a report and thirteen pictures from the floor. 55 Works from the Parsons New School for Design were featured, including Sims scultures and quilts, fake expansion pack boxes. Another one was just the plumb bob projected on the wall, waiting for someone to stand under it. There was also machinima, like "City Swap" which shows what happens when a real-life person and a Sim switch lives. "Space Elevator" showed projections on big screens hanging from the ceilings, showing Sims and their mood indicators. A homage to "Mill of the Mind" allowed people to press a sequence of buttons to torture Sims. Prize winning painting "Accessorizing" showed a gray figure, with a plot of land and a house as its head. The least Sims looking object in the exhibit won the $5,000 prize, a zoetrope, showed stills from the Sims. It showed a motion of a living Sim to a dead Sim. The theme features art and colours of the Seasons expansion pack, and is added to the list of themes provided until now. Go to your SimPage to change the theme of your page. Naturally you need to be logged in to be able to modify your theme.

Family Fun (Mac) Shipped

Not long ago Mac games publisher Aspyr announced that they would be porting the Sims 2 Stuff packs for the Mac platform. The first of the packs, Family Fun Stuff, has now been released under the Aspyr flag, and can be installed as addition to the Sims 2 game. Just like the PC version the pack contains 60 decorational items, but no new gameplay. The Mac version is identical to the PC edition, except for the platform, and requires the Sims 2 to be installed to work. Other stuff packs, starting with Glamour Life Stuff this summer, are expected later this year. Happy Holiday Stuff for Mac will released near the end of this year. The Sims Bowling for Mobile

The Sims Franchise is a popular one, and even games that have little to do with the Sims are being released under the Sims name. A new game for mobile phones is The Sims Bowling, a small bowling game in which you obviously have to throw a ball so you take down the 10 pins in front of the lane. The game has been revealed through EA Czech Republic and a demo video of the game is available at YouTube. Availability of the game in the US or other parts of Europe has not been announced by EA.

[Update 10 May, 18:55] Various websites, including MacWorld, are reporting that the bowling game will be made for the iPod, as well as three other EA titles.

The Sims 2 Travelin' Fun Stuff?

Besides the Bon Voyage expansion pack that's rumoured for September, another holiday title has hit the web recently. Travelin' Fun Stuff is supposed to be the sixth stuff pack for the Sims 2, to be released after H&M stuff this summer. The rumour comes from DigitalPlanet, an online Shop in South Africa, which has a listing of the game in their catalog. According to SnootySims and The Sims 2 South Africa the pack is priced as a Stuff pack, and so probably will contain 60 decorational items in a vacation style. It's expected in August, though there's no confirmation about that yet. Once more details and confirmation arrives about this stuff pack we'll let you know through the news here.

Survey Reveals EP Thoughts

Last week a new survey appeared at the official site for a brief time. It was quickly filled, but fansite SnootySims managed to get most of the interesting questions and answers from the questionnaire. Several ideas for expansion packs are suggested, including less realistic ones featuring magic, super heroes and time or space travelling. Besides that there's an idea for an expansion that focuses mostly on the children and younger Sims, and there's the recently rumoured Bon Voyage idea, in which you take your Sims on holiday. The rest of the survey seems to continue with the last idea as its basis, suggesting that the next expansion pack will indeed be a remake of the Sims 1 expansion pack Vacation, but of course with its own differences. Several new features, like various locations including mountain tops, the Far East and tropical islands and interactions like learning local greetings or dances are mentioned in the brief description. Other features mentioned in the survey include buying vacation homes, discovering hidden locations, finding unusual items, buying rare items and creating photo albums celebrating your Sims travels. There are also some possible Stuff pack themes in the survey, including costume parties, fantasy, the 20s, 50s, 60s or 70s, a pack focused on babies or teens, and electronics. Pets Stories Screenshots

Although the official announcement has not yet been made, The Sims Pets Stories is well underway, as is the marketing material. Three screenshots have leaked through EA South Africa, showing some of the items and gameplay of the second title in the Sims Stories product line. As with Life Stories, this title is mostly for new players of the Sims, who are not yet familiar enough with the game. As such it features a directed story mode which guides the player through the game. Until there's an official announcement, check out the screenshots below. H&M Fashion Stuff Announced

One Stuff pack is only just out, and a new one has already been announced again. H&M Fashion Stuff will come with items and fashion to decorate your own H&M stores in the Sims. Included are rugs, counters, cash registers, racks and other pieces of decoration, as well as new clothes. The pack is completely branded with the Swedish clothing company from Hennes and Mauritz and its logo can be found in many locations throughout the pack's objects. Together with the announcement EA has also revealed many graphics: 7 screenshots, 62 renders, and one video.
