The only weird thing I've done is install an entire downloaded lot that I know has items I don't have compatible expansion packs for. Now, when I load the game, it starts doing the objects section and immediately enters Neighborhood 1.Can't save changes.

This is because you do not have a "administrator" account If it is not you PC ask the owner if you may have "administrator" options (By 'My Computer' and look for 'Controle Panel' and Then 'Accounts' and click on your account and then click on 'Account Type' then form limited to "administrator."

Nope... I am an Administrator on my machine. I didn't get enough room for original info, so here goes:

I downloaded a lot with house and some landscaping knowing that it had incompatible items that I wanted to change out.

The game worked fine for a bit, then I had an XP failure, and had to reinstall the OS. I imported game data back in, and now I have one house that I'm working on that won't save changes. I've put on the entire second floor and had it delete. If I do one or two things (like one build thing and furnish one room) and save, it seems to save, but most of the time, if I save and exit, it reverts back to just the first floor and everything else I've done is gone.

When the game loads, it doesn't seem to be loading properly; it starts going through all the steps, gets to "Setting Up Objects" and then suddenly dumps you into Neighborhood 1 without bringing you to the chooser.

I should add that I've run FileCop and it doesn't come up with any corrupt files.

Have you tried repairing the neighborhoods with The Neighborhood Handler? You can find that on this site.

The most likely cause that you cannot save is because the files are read-only. The Sims cannot overwrite those files, hence all changes are lost. The Neighborhood Handler can fix that using the repair option.

Okay... thank you. Did that. Tried to redo the bathroom that keeps vanishing on me. Saved it. Reopened, and guess what? Bathroom gone again. Am I just going to have to blow away my whole install??

What expansion packs do you have? And with "the chooser" do you mean the neighborhood selector? If that doesn't appear in the top-left corner, and you have only The Sims and Livin' Large, then click here for more information about the problem you're having.

The bug didn't occur in Deluxe, but there is a patch for Deluxe which you might need. It's available at the official site.

What I suggest you do if that doesn't work, is try using a different neighborhood. With the Neighborhood Handler you can copy the houses over, and activate the other neighborhood. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid reinstalling the game is the only option. I haven't heard of this problem before.

Make sure to post what worked (or not) - it might be useful to others with the same problem!

The only thing I've found that works as an absolute resolution to the problem your are having is to bulldoze the specific lot you are having a problem with. Items from expansion packs you don't have will not show up in the game. They disappear when you leave a lot and then later return to it. If you can't get to the neighborhood the house is located in, then try (when the game is not running) overwriting that house with one from the same lot, but in a different neighborhood.

Had to reinstall. I believe that the problem was a cloned TOILET, of all things, but even trashing the house didn't work.

Some clones do fail and for reasons why they are unexplained just happens, some good sites is honest and tells you that these are clones and it could fail for some and for others it be fine.

T-Mog and some other objects viewer and modifier could helps you solve your problem however it could also be down to expansion packs you dont have and the object is designed for.

IE I downloaded an object other night and run sims, I can view the object in the buy mode and place it, but the sims cant interact with it at all, used SimEnhancer Object Manager adn discovered it was designed for SuperStar Expansion Pack in minds so has to delete that object.

So your house may has custom object that is designed for expansion packs you dont have it has caused you all sort of problems.
