Why cant sims have babies on the console versions?

there wasnt enough space on the disk for it, thats what i heard.
i think it is because theres no space because it goes threw life and if you went to work and you had no husband or child nobody would be able to look after it.
that is a good point.
And you can't get Nanny's like in PC Sims 2 ETC.
