The Sims 1 is older so it can work on older machines.
The Sims 2 is newer and some older machines don't have the new requirements for the game.

That's what my suggesting is.

Not sure, but sims 1 and 2 are totally different, and sims 2 takes up more space then sims 1.

check the bottom or side of sims2 box. It will have the minimum required system assets (equipment) that the game requires to operate. If you know what your computer has match these values. If Sims 2 requires higher level equipment and resources then you have on your computer it may refuse to install to your machine all together.

The sims 2 is very annoying because it needs seriously high requirements. My processor and graphics card can't keep up with the darn thing. It usually needs about 3GB free hard disk space and about a 2.0 GHZ processor. I don't rightly know though, look on the back of the Sims 2 case and it will tell you.
