Whenever I throw a party, there's this timer on the top right hand corner of the screen. What are the sims supposed to do?

every party is 5 sim hours long. that timer is basically a countdown. the goal is to get a "roof raiser" party, which means it's the best party ever.

ic.. then what are the sims supposed to do to have a good party? Should i get them to dance or something?

when i had a roof raiser i had a buffet table, stereo, tv, two bathrooms and made sure that some guests liked each other, otherwise the dancing would have ended up in relationship down.
